Swingarm Conversion
« on: 26 February 2015, 06:39:16 pm »
Hi guys, so the cafe fazer build is a little slow right now, need a bit more dough and shes not starting yet. will get there! Am just interested to see if anyone has done a swingarm conversion like r6/r1 sort of thing? or any others that work with some patience. also looking to do a fork swap when money allows, any help or tips would be awesome!

thanks guys :)

I have an R6 swingarm out in the garage. Haven't got around to doing anything with it because...

Bear in mind that due to the triangulation of R1/R6 engines (input / output shaft mounted more vertically, meaning the engines were shorter), their swingarms were about longer to compensate.  Fitted to the Fazer, they will be about 1.5 inches longer; this will be fine if you spend your time cruising in straight lines but will destroy decent cornering ability.

Better swaps would probably be either the TRX850 or YZF750 swingarms, which are closer to the FZS600 length-wise.  I believe RubyRacer has also fitted a FZR 1000 Exup swingarm to his.

ohh ok, i'm only really exploring anyway, just after something that looks a little better than the standard one and to get a wider rear wheel etc. will check out some other options, are there any others that you know of? or the best fork swap?

I have indeed (someone is reading my build!  :rollin :rollin :rollin ).

Wheelbase is about the same, maybe a touch shorter. Had to machine off 5mm on either side of the pivot point.

Not at all. But I have no idea, as it's some way off being completed. Should be getting stuck in again soon. Goes in fits and starts!

That's what I was going for before I ran out of money.

VFR750 swingers are a close fit, but will need new collars and internal spacers made at a machine shop. I never got to that stage, but offering it up showed it might be possible.

Any chance you could grab some dimensions from the vfr swingarm for me when you can?

Sorry, but both bike and swinger are 60 miles from me! Assuming the swingarm hasn't sold yet.

Ask Deefer666, if he still has it.
