So, my current OEM exhaust is blowing... I am considering attempted to remedy this using some of the exhaust putty stuff, however as it's pay day tomorrow I'm also kinda tempted to treat myself (and my bike) to a new one...

So far I'm liking the look of the Fuel exhausts and it just about fits in my budget (really a max of £150). I'm not looking for anything too loud or performance enhancing (though obviously that would be an added bonus) and I don't want to have to worry about it being road legal etc (I'm a bit of a boring foccer like that) and so the Fuel ones seem to fit the bill.

That said, I wondered if there were any other options I should be considering? Lets be honest, anything is going to sound better than the OEM one but as I'm not going to get to test any out, feedback from you wonderful lot would be great

I used the putty on mine, it cured the blow, but still an annoying rattle inside, so going to buy myself a new one as well, so would be interested to hear people opinions, i have seen some reasonable priced Fuel cans and Delkevic Cans on ebay.

Start here, my current one is the 4th one down, as i also have a Quill can as well.
Probably not your cup of tea, although it is all stamped and legal.

I have a Fuel on my FZ1 and really like them (previously had them before too).

Quality is excellent and sound very nice without being antisocial. Removable baffle if you want to be though

You also get a piece of Kendal mint cake which swings the deal for me

After market downpipes, but they were already on the bike and even my mechanic couldn't identify what brand they were?

This is the same exhaust but without the baffle in.
I've contemplated it 'cos it sounds lovely but my neighbours will hate me even more and without the baffle it obviously becomes illegal and the noise will draw unwanted attention from the police. It's noisy enough as it is though to be honest.

An exhaust system is usually piping used to guide reaction exhaust gases away from a controlled combustion inside an engine or stove.

An exhaust pipe must be carefully designed to carry toxic and/or noxious gases away from the users of the machine. Indoor generators and furnaces can quickly fill an enclosed space with poisonous exhaust gases such as hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides,[1] if they are not properly vented to the outdoors. Also, the gases from most types of machine are very hot; the pipe must be heat-resistant, and it must not pass through or near anything that can burn or can be damaged by heat. A chimney serves as an exhaust pipe in a stationary structure. For the internal combustion engine it is important to have the exhaust system "tuned" (refer to tuned exhaust) for optimal efficiency. Also this should meet the regulation norms maintained in each country. In European countries, EURO 5, India BS-4 etc.,

In most motorcycles all or most of the exhaust system is visible and may be chrome plated as a display feature. Aftermarket exhausts may be made from steel, aluminium, titanium, or carbon fiber.

Motorcycle exhausts come in many varieties depending on the type of engine and its intended use. A twin cylinder may flow its exhaust into separate exhaust sections, such as seen in the Kawasaki EX250 (also known as the Ninja 250 in the US, or the GPX 250). Or, they may flow into a single exhaust section known as a two-into-one (2-1). Larger engines that come with 4 cylinders, such as Japanese supersport or superbikes (such the Kawasaki ZX series, Honda's CBR series, Yamaha's YZF series, also known as R6 and R1, and Suzuki's GSX-R series) often come with a twin exhaust system. A "full system" may be bought as an aftermarket accessory, also called a 4-2-1 or 4-1, depending on its layout. In the past, these bikes would come standard with a single exhaust, as seen on the Kawasaki ZX-6R 2000 and 2001 models. However, EU noise and pollution regulations have generally stopped this practice, forcing companies to use other methods to increase performance of the motorcycle.

I couldn't stand the noise of the whining gearbox with the standard can on, i found it very irritating.

I love my blueflame exhaust, it's road legal but sounds lovely, the bike sounds more like a bike rather than a fart in the wind, now.

I think it was £150 delivered if I remember.

Just replaced my original exhaust with a second hand Fuel one off fleabay (£120 for the complete system) the original went the way of all of them, rotted underneath, my 1st fix was to clean it all up, get some ally sheet and form it around the pipe to fit, bug some gun gum on and rivet it all together then a lot of paint, it worked for about a year, got through an MOT test as well, but, the alluminium didn't rot but the steel did, so, took off the ally plating, cleaned it all up and had it welded, which, apparently, was a sod of a job as the metal left was so thin, the welder was just eating it away but in the end, it was done and passed the following MOT but with frowns from the tester and mutterings about no chance next year matey! Well, that time aproaches, so, time for stainless, so should outlast the bike :-)

Oddly enough, I have a drill, wire brush spinny thing attachment, time and some exhaust paint :-)

I tried it once and wasted a whole afternoon, the metal is too thin. You start sanding / drill polishing to prep for paint and the holes appear faster than you imagine and it's really tough to weld apparently. I went through a load of hassle and once it was refitted to the bike, it was still blowing a little and was blowing a lot 2 weeks later. Bought some motad venom pipes and have never looked back.

It's the cheapest one they do but I'm very pleased with it :-)

When I took the bike to brands hatch the chaps doing the noise test really liked it and they must see a fair few bikes. :-)

FYI

I was giving the down pipes a clean up earlier then finally decided to take the baffle out of the Moto GP exhaust and see what it was like.
Got the day off so went for a quick 20 mile spin and it was FOCCIN LOUD!

Although it had a lovely tone to it the volume was just way too much, and it was even worse when I went down side roads with houses, I was being stared at 100 metres before reaching people.

So, I've decided that while the baffle is out I'm gonna widen each of the 6 holes at the end by about 2mm each then refit it so I can have the best of both worlds but at least be legal.

For anyone interested I use Optiglanz to clean my down pipes with, if you give it a go use 2 pairs of rubber gloves and eye protection, it's nasty shit.

In 2004 I bought Arrow exhaust, paid it €300, if I remember correctly.
It gives a nice deep sound at idle, camera phone video doesn't do justice:

Hi, so my new exhaust arrived today. Very exciting... However, having undone the bolts on the OEM one, it's still very much stuck. Not too surprising given its been on there for 15 years, but I wondered if there was a nack to getting them off, short of wiggling it about for hours on end?

Any advice from those who've done it before would be great

grab the exhaust and twist it as best you can, better with someone holding the downpipes to stop them breaking.

Bit old now but this was a 2nd hand Delkevic one on the wife's FZS600 (which I used too as it sounded greeeeat!)
