Moto gymkhana crash bars
« on: 05 February 2015, 09:14:53 am »
Hi all,

Recently bought a used Fazer to use for the moto gymkhana sport. At the moment I'm looking around for decent crash protection. The Renntec bars look like the sturdiest option at the moment.

But then I found this tweet: https://twitter.com/motogymkhana/status/193012297323642881 These bars look like that are even better! Does anybody know anything about these bars? Which company makes them? Are they available in Europe?

Thanks, but the bars in the picture aren't Renntec's. I'm asking about those.

You'll be fine with the renntecs, you could always find a way of adding bungs to the bars for even more protection

The bike in the picture is Andrew Freeman's who is one of the people that runs Motogymkhana in the UK. These bars were bought in Japan and are not currently available in the UK. I believe Andrew is working with a company to develop some similar bars but I'm not sure when these will be available.

I've got Renntecs on my Fazer and they are fine until you really start pushing on when you can hit the lower front mount on the floor. The Renntecs are a good cheap solution to get started with and it takes a LOT of practice to reach their limitations.

Thanks for all the info. This makes up my mind and I'm going to order the Renntec bars.

What do you mean with spindles? The axles? Or the engine mountingbolts at the lower front of the frame. Those bolts are not to big a diameter so I'm afraid they will bend after a few drops.

Ah that explains it. I will test first after the crash bars are installed if there are parts that need extra protection. It is also possible to order nylon rods and custom make something like this:
600rr
600rr

You can buy nylon rod in various OD's and make your own bungs,  but old skateboard wheels are normally free .... If you know some skaters & they make excellent crash bungs...even new on ebay they are as cheap as chips and some have very funky designs on them

More great advice from deef, I'd never have thought of skate wheels!
