Fsz600 2003 smoking a bit
« on: 04 January 2015, 08:09:52 pm »
I notice it more when I look in my mirror and have a car behind me because it's light are shining on the back of the bike.

It's worse when stationary. I notice other bikes the smokes tends to clear when they warm up but my fazer doesn't seem to do that. I Noticed this a lot of it rains or its cold?

Should I be checking something?

That would be normal on a cold or wet day until it the engine heats up.
Is it blue or white smoke?

You need to check this on a mild/dry day. For every gallon of fuel your engine burns it will produce a gallon of water vapour as a product of combustion which is much more evident on a cold damp day.
If your engine is in good condition this isnt a problem but white SMOKE as opposed to vapour on a normal warm day indicates a problem.

My money's on it just being the cold weather, it takes a bit of getting used to, but I doubt you'll have a problem.
Depending how long you've had it sitting around for, and also if you do any short journeys, then you may even have a nice blob of mayonnaise on the underside of your oil cap as well, which is an eye opener as well until you read up on it, it's normal.

put your hand (or a tissue) over the exhaust outlet when it's idling. You should just get a wet  (and warm) hand. You may get a slight bit of oil mist coming through too but not too much.
If your hand turns black from oil you have a problem.

If its not loosing oil or coolant then my money is on water vapour from the damp air.
