Advice on parts...

Hi all...


I've now removed the AIS and I'll also be removing the coolant lines to the carbs... so I need to plug these pipes. Anyone know a good cheap stockist of spigots and clips for the carbs? Also, regarding the AIS, I'll need to plug the holes in the head... I've read somewhere of some guy called justy who makes these... any ideas? What do you all suggest?


I also need some new exhaust studs and flange nuts to replace the corroded ones... Yamaha ones look silly money... any suggestions on cheaper (as long as they'll last/quality is high) ones? I'm in NZ now... no salt... corrosion not so much of an issue.

Hi,
   You don't need to block the little coolant pipes on the carbs, you'll have to either block the outlet at the thermostat and the little one on the rad or as I did link them both with a short piece of hose.
The holes below the exhaust ports can be CAREFULLY tapped and sealed with a bolt.

Why are you thinking of removing the carb heaters? NZ is a beautiful country, but it is not a tropical one.

Justy is/was one of the lads who used to be on FZS1000.co.uk like a lot of us gen 1 owners were. He was a metalworker who used to turn bike bits for a laugh/few quid when the boss wasn't looking. He made me a set of custom crash bungs with knurled surfaces so I could use them to rest my feet on when doing long rides to the German Fazer bash. He never made them commercially or had a website or anything, just as a favour to forum guys. I dunno what he's doing now, haven't seen him for ages. I think you can use standard bolts, 'Justy bungs' were just a bit neater. I'm sure someone who actually did the AIS mod can point you in the right direction though.

for my bike I got my studs from a Vauxhall dealer, they were the same length and half the cost, I bought dome head stainless nuts off eBay.

stainless dome headed nuts do look better than the original nuts, a good enough reason?

My experience was needing to hire snow chains for the Te Anua to Milford Sound road and wishing every inch of it I was on my bike. (sigh...)

Back to cold and miserable Ireland, I still don't get why you would want to remove the carb heaters?

a metalworker!!!! think you mean a machinist/fitter turner of the manual type. nothing fancy like cnc stuff.
sadly i dont make stuff anymore as i was made redundant about 3 years ago. BUT i do have a lathe & a baby milling machine. unfortunately as sh*t has hit the fan ive got a few personal things going on at the mo & ive not managed to get any of it set up. but when i do i hope to start knocking out stuff for a "laugh" again. lol!
