Anyone had one of these?
« on: 07 November 2014, 07:56:42 pm »
Got a call from my line manager yesterday telling me I had a NIP for 49 in a 30. FUCK. had a meeting with him today and he gave me this

Although it did give me cause for thought I was very relieved. Especially as I did a speed awareness course 2 months back. I asked him why he didn't tell me about it yesterday and he said "I wanted u to think about ur speed riding a branded bike." Fair one. Kick up the arse gratefully accepted.

Speeding is one of the factors that most affects the quality of life in communities.
It contributes to the severity of road traffic collisions and increases the impact on the lives of people in the community.
Community SpeedWatch is a traffic monitoring scheme coordinated by Thames Valley Police in partnership with local councils and other stakeholders, but managed and run by neighbourhood policing teams and community volunteers.
How it works
  • SpeedWatch can only operate in areas up to a 40 miles per hour speed limit. Community volunteers work alongside Thames Valley Police officers to identify vehicles which break the speed limit.
  • Registration numbers are entered onto a database which produces a letter informing the registered owner that their vehicle has been noted to have exceeded the speed limit and asking them not to do so in the future.
  • If the same registration number is logged in another SpeedWatch anywhere within Thames Valley, the owner will receive another letter advising them that if they are caught a third time, the information will be passed onto Roads Policing, who may take further action.

owkay!....... so is speeding the big killer or dangerous driving?  We have a  4 mile  long dual carriageway here that is 40mph. There are no turn offs, no yellow markings, no roundabouts etc it is a dead straight  dual carriageway. So why is it 40mph?  Because 5-6 council bods sat in an office and decided it should be. Last year 8,692 people got done on this road for speeding. This tells me that 8,692 people thought it was safe to drive at over 40mph, but they got done because a few people in power thought it wasnt safe. No one wants to die driving, so people drive at a speed that they deem to be safe. If a government backed committee decided motorways should all be 45mph, should we all drive at 45mph on motorways?... Just asking!

The latter. But the former is *so* much easier and cheaper to enforce...

Speedwatch is where the police give some local busybody cunts a speed camera to play with, they then hide in a bush and take details of speeding vehicles.... The reason no further action is taken is because it was an untrained civilian that clocked you and not a scamera operator or a walloper.

Its a horse shit, scare tactic letter to say that they are watching you, aint fuck all they can do.

I tend to keep the speed down in 30's, 40's, and even 50's to avoid this kind of shit. There's loads of speed camera's and speed vans around here, and they're ruthless (putting them at the bottom of hills in 30 zones outside residential areas!!!!)

Nationals are a different thing altogether >:D

And there's plenty of them too.

I seem to attract coppers with a cash register fixation ...all this bollocks about 'safety' really twists my knitting...103mph on a motorway...if it was that  (which I disagree with) Was anyone injured ...No! Then driving without consideration ...overtaking an unmarked cop car which was sharing the fuel of the car in front which was at a standstill to turn off the road...I took it as being a BMW driver being a BMW driver so gave it a wide berth....pulls me up for clipping the end of solid double white...country road...he had to speed to catch me and the only reason I stayed out is I couldn't make out where he was in my mirror (it was night-time) ...I just take it on the chin these days...Country is fucked

Crash?  Nae luck.  Hope you are OK.

But yeah I remember a few years back the police were doing ride outs out of the town here.  Improve your riding skills, reduce accidents was the idea.  I never went but those who did told me, the rules were 30mph speed limits must be respected - no ifs - no buts - out on the open road no ton up stuff.  You set off, they followed, stop at an agreed cafe or whatever and review riding skills, then back down the road practising what you have leaned and a chat at the end.

So they were pretty cool about folks pressing along country roads as long as they did it safely.

Now I've just had my first ticket and 100 quid fine.  Was I breaking the speed limit, sure, was I riding like a loon, no.  Was I polite and honest - yes, did it do me any good - no.  Straight to ticket, process me as quick as poss and pull the next bike.

It's zero tolerance and KPI's.

Next time I'm minded to pull out the smart phone, start recording and .............

Of course the other thing is I'm pissed I didn't spot em first, and yes they are trying to noise folks up (Dunoon police hitting their KPI's).  Grrrr.

I have had some very good advice: never voluntarily speak to the police. There's no profit in it, only heartache.

There's no such thing as 'zero tolerance' when it comes to traffic law. It's the only set of laws where cops are allowed to use his judgement and decide on the outcome. Some cops are just a bit crap at judging things.

And nothing wrong with volunteering info and talking to the cops either. If your house/car/bike had been robbed, you'd want everyone to sing like a bird wouldn't you so the Bugger gets caught!

Oh , and they're not all bad......... :P

Why do they want to interview me about my crash Stevie? No one was injured but me, no property was damaged but mine, and no one has made a complaint against me. Is it because they're very caring people? I think not.

And if my bike had been stolen, they'd probably show bugger all interest.
