Would like to have a go at that road. Don't think I would like to do it on a wing though. You can hear it scraping on every bend!

 :lol

IIRC, the fastest rider up the Dragon did it in something like 9 mins on a moded Goldwing, And they seem to hawling ass aswell. When Luke and I did it I had a FJR1200 and Luke had a Goldwing. Quickest I did it was just over 10 mins and I wouldn't want to go faster than that. So easy to fock up.

Got a Fazer 1000 Gen 1 fully Ivanised and am chauffer for my wife on our GL1800.
I've fitted Progressive suspension front and rear which improves the handling of the Big 'Wing dramatically.
It's promoted as having a sporting chassis, but standard suspension is just not up to the job. (Sound familiar with the Fazer perhaps?)  Biggest problem was grounding of pegs on even slow corners.  Mine's well sorted now and nothing drags anymore, though doubt I'd keep up with that yellow fellow.
Most would be VERY surprised and impressed with the handling of a modded GL1800 and the Deals Gap video is well known and impressive.  Deals gap is only 11 miles long, 'snothing compared to some of the twisties in Scotland and Wales though eh?  How lucky are we!! :)

Point taken Septik about roads in Wales and Scotland, there's even some good roads in England you know. But I still reckon the Dragon is something special. Proper in your face and relentless even though only for eleven miles. You have to ride it to apriciate it. I wondered what all the fuss was about but you soon find out when you ride it. It's a roller coaster with little or no let up. Most of the bends are positive camber and because they're in such quick secsession if you fuck one up it'll totally balls up the next three if you even get to the next bend and don't end up in the undergrowth. Speak to Luke or anyone on the Yank FZS site that's riden it and I guarentee they'll tell you the same.

This 11 miles of road is legend.

NOT!! It ain't a patch on a certain 37 and three quarter mile road on an island not far from me here in Liverpool, truly deserved of the title 'Legend'
And Yeah, England has got some good roads too, and Ireland (both bits, aren't we the  lucky one's!) Cumbria's full of them, but have you been up the Hard Knott / Wrynose Pass lately with tarmac ribboned surface more akin to a washboard and full of potholes.
Maybe I'm just jealous 'cos I'd love to ride the Dragon too, guess I'll never manage that one though.  :'( Maybe  the proposed TTF1 could incorporate the Dragon as the USA leg?
A favourite 'fast and flowing' road of mine in the Highlands is the A830 and A861 from Fort William to Ardnamurchan - and back, don't go with a 17 litre tank though! :lol

I remember Luke sharing the videos from this road - looks brilliant but those juggernauts cutting the corners would given me pause for thought...

As Luke says opinion vary.

What I will add is that I've done Scotland, Wales, Lake District and other part of OUR beautiful UK many, many times by bike (I've even done them towing a caravan) and none of the roads I've riden have the same characteristics as the Dragon... Not even a 37 mile road on an island that gets turned into a race track now and then. I'm not saying they're crap. Some of our road are awsome. Some that come to mind are from Tobermory via Criagnure to Iona on another island called Mull. North Road from Ullapool to Thurso is a stonker. I could go on.

You can't compare the Dragon to anything else. It wasn't my favorite road out there. As Luke says 28 was pretty special as was the Cherohala Skyway which is mind blowing but in a different way.

There's just something about the Dragon.

I've not ridden either road, but lack of knowledge/experience of a particualar road doesn't seem to be stopping anybody esle from commenting, so here goes.

It doesn't seem appropriate, at all, to be comparing the Dragon with (say) a 37 mile stretch on a small island. One is a very fast racetrack, with some longish straights, that absolutely, you need massive cajones to ride at high speed. The other is more of a ballet, it doesn't look as though the speeds ever get that high, there's barely a straight on that 11 miles, you're flicking from one side of the tyres to the other with no respite at all.

Which one would I rather go ride? That'll be the Dragon, thanks. I'm surpised they haven't banned the big trucks from it though.

Now that road Fort William - Ardnamurchan, that one I have done, and it is a peach ;)

I've just done some looking online and it seems that although the authorities have put up signs warning truck drivers about the road, they haven't actually banned them despite repeated accidents.

It seems that the trucks tend to end up on there because maps don't show the curves, Sat Navs pick it as the shortest route and, worst of all, some dispatchers send trucks up there *despite* having been repeatedly warned that it's totally unsuitable for them.

See http://www.atomclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=10151.0 and http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=721451

After a fatality last year there's a petition here demanding change which I've signed to help other bikers.

AWESOME!  :eek
You lot will be riding Harleys next week and voting republican!   :lol
And the IOM is not a race track, it's just like the Cat & Fiddle, the Snake Pass, Trough of Bowland to Devils Bridge at Kirkby Lonsdale, Hartside Pass (now ain't that something!) or the A483 South from Newtown. (Or North to Newtown - be careful in the wet and look out for milk tankers) Whether on Goldwing or Fazer, think I've just listed some of my favourite roads.  But Mad Sunday over the mountain - oh but once a year, yet the Dragon is 'awes........'?  Sorry, can't bring meself to use that phrase.  Back to you Kosmic, they're in England!  Luvvly Jubbly (NOT 'awesome')  ;)

"Cat & Fiddle, the Snake Pass, Trough of Bowland to Devils Bridge at Kirkby Lonsdale, Hartside Pass (now ain't that something!) or the A483 South from Newtown"

Done all them... and more... And the Dragon.

What we need is a tread of favorite roads. Until then there's no point with me adding any more to this tread. It's going knowhere  ;)

And Yeah, sorry Motorbreath, getting back to the original post about Goldwing riders.
I am a Goldwing Rider, not as good as the  yellow fellow in the initial video here, but sufficiently sorted and rapid enough to be able to enjoy the above mentioned roads fully laden and two up in ALL weathers.  That barndoor fairing, heated grips and heated seat makes all the difference in the Highlands.  Sports bike riders quiver up there in comparison and the big 'Wing can lead them all the way and back in comfort at rapid pace. Don't knock a Goldwing 'till you've tried one, they ain't slow and can be made to hustle with fun. I love the Fazer, but love the 'Wing equally.  Too expensive by far new nowadays, got mine in '06 at bargain price.  Keeper like the Gen.1  Feckin' dog!
