faston connector for headlight mod

anyone know where I can get a faston crimp connector to do the headlight mod?  Or another suitable connector.

I have used two methods. First was to get a standard crimp connector from Halfords and bed that to fit. The other, a bit neater, was to get a new three wire H4 plug from Halfords and cut off the old two wire one.

cut wires and solder then wrap up in self amalgamating tape. those crap fast crimp are toss. Wrapped up solder gives a good lasting waterproof rust free connection

Heat shrink is better, as long as you own a heat gun to shrink it with which most people won't.
With self amalgamating tape you just stretch it, wrap it round whatever then it sticks to itself, it's waterproof and also really easy to use.
The only downside to the tape is that it can degrade a bit if fully exposed to the elements although it will take quite a while, but that can be fixed easily enough by just replacing it. It's way better than electrical tape though.

Lighter, near fuel tank, wouldn't be my personal favourite to be honest.

did it last night.  works a treat.  just need a 8mm spade connector today as I couldn't get a new H4 plug.  Ended up using crimps but then wrapped them in amalgamating tape which is great stuff.  never used it before but perfect for this sort of job.


Although I removed my tank to check the fuel gauge float and this morning the bike cut out all the way to work until I got the air out of the system.

Check you haven't kinked the breather pipes. That creates a vacuum in the tank and stops fuel flowing freely. Quick fix is to open the filler cap.

seems ok now, I tipped the tank up and it started and ran ok.  Which breather pipes do you mean though?

actually, scratch that question, mine is a 2001, and it dosn't have the individual breather pipes, the tank slots over the breather inlet thingy so they can't get kinked.


I think there was some fuel in the breather bit of the tank which was pretty much doing the same thing though.  Seems ok now touch wood.  thought i'd buggered up something for a minute.
