Patches

in another thread a comment was raised that has me wondering how many patched members (back or side) are on the forum?!
 
I've recently joined a side patch club and our rules are fairly basic when it comes to bikes, basically you must own & be able to ride a bike & said bike must be able to maintain motorway speeds, but i know other clubs can be fairly strict with the rules for what bike you can have!

side patch as in mcc or prospect for an mc?? as for only owning a bike that can maintain motorway speeds WTF  so how the kids of the people in the club going to get along when they passed their cbt, as not many 125cc bikes will do 70 now.

Am in local rally club we go all over the country to rallies and have over 40 members and we let our kids get whatever bike they like then adjust our speed to theirs so they can get around with us seems to me it makes more sense than waiting till they 19 or spend a lifetime and a fortune finding an old unrestricrted 125

an mc member would not dare to admit he on a forum like this as they have their rules and being members or even forum members of another club or society etc etc is a big no no

I wasn't expecting members to speak out, it was more a muse in thought!
I was very careful not to mention my involvement in detail and am aware of both recriminations and rules

Ok I now know all there is to know about patches and where they are fitted and all that stuff. I had no idea there was so much etiquette involved-- if that word can possibly be used in this context.
Each to their own and respect to all-------me, Im Billy - no - mates.
Or am I a club member on here as from reading the info on the link sounds like we are, a loose group who help each other out and occasionlay meet for rides out, do we need a patch. That reminds me what ever happend to the tax disk badge idea.

Been around a long time in n out of a few mcc clubs been a lone wolf and now with mates in a rally club

 My light hearted look at who rides 

• the power ranger, set up racing around like idiots no respect for theirs or anyone elses life on GP wannabe bikes in power ranger suits
• bikers on their own or with mates on a weekend jaunt etc etc respect to all and generally a happy chap
• Sons of Anarchy wannabes just gone out n bought a harley and now think they outlaws on a Sunday as in the office the rest of the week
• MCC club, go to rallies hold rallies and bike events ride anybike, most of the time, and friendly helpful chappies
• MC club outlaws, satan slaves, H.A, devils deciples the list goes on, loyal to a fault to their own and usually despise any other MC, most ride harleys or streetfighters and yes it does happen and the usual applies, drugs, protection, weapons etc etc etc ride occasionally but mostly go out  "visiting " in a transit van

My sincere appologies if you have taken offence to any of the descriptions I have posted as it is a light hearted look at who rides bikes.

I am a "friend" of a couple of local MCC and HOG due to being involved on charity rides and I was invited to join a "patriotic " MC once upon a time ,but I’m too much of Power Ranger to make the grade lol

There's a 6th group Keith, commuters.  Ride through the week in all weather, possibly all year and rack up a lot of miles on their bike doing so. It's their main form of transport and arguably the true 'biker'

yes but that commuter probably fits into one of the other 5 groups when not working, having siad that hats off to them riding all year round, been there n my body now suffers the consequences as protective riding apparel in my day was ermm a helmet, denim jeans, leather jacket n gloves possibly boots if you were lucky   lol

Yes I too have done my time riding in bad weather when I had no choice, praying for a red light so I could lean down and grab the exhaust, no fancy pants.........pants back then either,with water proofs that were'nt blah blah.

Agree, spent too many years in my 20s freezing my fingers off (not to mention other bits) to do it these days. Happy to sit in the car in winter now with the heater on.

I think they would fall in to their own category mostly since not a single commuter has ever nodded or acknowledge my presence on the road...

Perhaps it would be two sub-categories; the commuter with a passion for bikes probably conforms to group 2, but the commuter who just uses a bike to get from A to B because its cheaper tends to be a moody bastard and couldn't care less about other powered two-wheelers

I dont mind the cold as these days I have the modern thermal gear, but dont like rain, slippy, wet, and makes my bike dirty.

There is another group; those that ride for a living: couriers, police, and a guy I knew who was a rep for Fowlers and rode his FJR round the dealers in all weather.
Hats off especially to couriers in big cities, who risk life and limb everyday among the car/van/taxi driving numpties, day in, day out, in all weather, all year round. No one can tell those guys they're not true bikers, even if they don't ride for pleasure outside of work, although I think most probably do. And we of course have a few couriers/ex couriers among our number here: hats off to you guys, I couldn't do that and remain sane/alive!

I was in a back patch club back in the early 70's, I won't say which one  but the bottom rocker said "WEST RIDING" not enough biking done and not enough bikes, didn't stay in it long as it wasn't my thing? it was bad enough riding a motorbike but wearing patches and you were an outcast.
