Which is best????
« on: 14 August 2014, 07:07:21 am »
Over the bank holiday weekend I'm going to attempt to re-paint my engine & was just wondering what you guy's think is the best paint to use! Spray or hand painting? I will be using the same paint to also do the down tubes of the frame as they look as naff as the engine now  :'( :'( :'(

Cheers Ray

I used spray, but whichever way you go all i'll say is the engine must be thoroughly degreased properly.

I have a habit of spraying the HT leads and plugs area during winter or if i know i'm going into a heavy shower with WD40, and believe me when i say it really doesn't agree with paint at all, it just bubbles up.
Oh, and i used to use an engine brightener spray as well, to take away that dull washed out grey/black look, which i presume probably had some kind of silicon ingredient in it.

Just thought i'd warn you first because it's horrible when you see it happen.  :(

I used a gloss high temp spray can to do the engine and that came out really good, just takes foccing forever to mask everything off.  For the downpipes i used a matt black high temp spray.  It all looks original still so im happy.  :D

Caught me out at first too but he's on about the FRAME downpipes, rather than the exhaust ones.  :)

ahhh, that'll teach me to read properly before aswering.  I did youch up the horizontal bit of frame by the oil filter with the same spray paint used for the engine.  That remind me i still havent sanded the edges fo the fins.
