Tank size mod

I remember seeing this a few years ago on here and thought it was fantastic then. However, I have since realised that after 250 miles plus, the last thing I'm thinking is...."I wish I had enough fuel to go another 100 miles"

Really? What's going through my mind after 150 miles is 'I need to stretch my legs and air my balls'! 250 mile range would certainly be handy though.

I never realised the tank on an FZ1 2006+ is only 18 litres, that's just so wrong!

And at that size its still bigger than the vast majority of bikes these days, aside from tourers!


God only knows why they release sports bikes with such piddly tanks, if the MotoGP boys get 21L, and the endurance lads 24L, why can't I have one of those!

Maybe I go against the trend on this one but I usually keep my tank low on purpose like a half to a quarter tank unless I'm doing a long journey. Keeps the bike more nimble. Why would you want to be dragging around an extra 5 or 10 kg of fuel all the time if you don't have to. Whenever you get low on petrol and you brim the tank the bike feels totally different pulling out of the garage compared to going in. It's more sluggish and harder to turn everyone feels it. I'd take lighter and more nimble with twice as many petrol stops.

I'm the opposite, i rarely let the fuel go below a third of a tank.
Plus having a fuel gauge that isn't exactly reliable doesn't help so i prefer to keep it topped up.

Suppose it depends on where you do your riding. I'd be in an urban area 99% of the time so I wouldn't be far from a garage and I know I'm good until the indicator needle gets to the middle of the E on my bike. I've run out twice. Once was just as I was pulling into a garage and the second time was on a hill and I coasted down it and rolled right into a garage and right up to a pump. It was beautiful

I prefer the 97 octane fuel as well which not every garage does now, so i prefer to fill up when i want to rather than when i have to.
I'm in London though so it's not like i'm far from a garage anyway as you say
