2001 fzs600 speedometer wiring loom
« on: 18 June 2014, 08:31:01 am »
Good morning!

First off all, I apologise for making a new topic and not making an apropriate use of search function.

I would like to ask a Q about wiring loom that goes straight into OEM 2001 fzs600 speedometer.

The thing is that I am trying to get rid of it and put a decent motogadget speedo on.

Can any one please look at the attached image of speedo back side and PLEASE tell me which pin is doing what. I can't find a normal wiring diagram that explains which wires should be cut off and which should be soldered etc.

Can any one pin me to a apropriate source or reply here with an info telling me which wire is which!

Once again sorry for making a new topic and I thank you in advance!

Can't you go by the existing connector on the loom? The wires are colour coded and the wiring diagram is available at the back of the manual (downloadable from the "downloads" section on here).

That's the problem. I was hoping to get an answer about which cables should'nt touch because of the ignition unit that's located in tail section.

Welcome to the forum  :)

It would be nice to see picture of the whole bike too not only the speedo socket  :lol

Anyway here is the diagram for the wiring:

One more picture (unknown creator).
According to the motogadget site it is compatible with reed sensors as well as with other (orignal) sensors.
You have more details?

Thanks very much for the welcome to the forum  and helpful responses. In actual fact my problem solely relates to the speed sensor (I have previously used this forum and these diagrams to work out the rest of the wiring!)-I want to use the OEM sensor rather than fitting a the motogadget sensor.  I have separately communicated with Schlumpf who has been really helpful. Where I am now is:- Two wires come from the sensor to the dash - blue/yellow and white. I have connected a switched live to the blue/yellow and I have placed a resistor between this wire and the White signal wire (4700). The White signal wire switches from 12v to 0 when the wheel turns, but the motogadget does not record anything... I don't understand why this is not working!

Any thoughts?
