Panel damage (Cosmetic)
« on: 12 June 2014, 06:26:37 pm »
Hi all,

I've bought a bike with a bit of cosmetic damage that I'd like to get fixed.

Could anyone tell me what this panel is called or give me a part no. so I could try and source a replacement? I can't seem to find any on eBay with what I'm searching for!

Thanks :)

Better chance getting gold dust than an infill, unless you get New item from Yamaha..

Exact same place mine went , take it off and repair from underneath, araldite or similar you could try some plastic weld with solder iron and thin cable tie melted acoss then some araldite on top, you will not see it as it is underneath repair. or some small washers glued across the crack to add support think I did that on the left side. all done underside out of view.

both sides of mine have been repaired at that fitting location just visible , when get some spare pennies may get a new pair but it holds ok and more interested in filling the tank and enjoying the roads, as it is firm fix and not very visible repair

As genuine Yamaha infills are about £40 each, those aren't much more expensive!

I used to make carbon bits and decided I am not paying the price for the infills. So.... I am going to make some now it's a bit warmer

I see. I did have a look at the various kits on the market and watched a load of YouTube vids but the panels are such an awkward shape I got cold feet.  I'd love to have a go, but I get the feeling I'd end up with two very light boat anchors!

How are you going to approach it? It's the 90 degree angle that's bugging me. That's an awkward mould to make.

I'm guessing a weir and a 2 part mould?

The shape is simple enough, it won't be a problem really as it has no tight corners etc I was planning to do them months ago but time flies haha best get things moving!
