Braking Question

Was out at the weekend breaking in a new back tyre, as the miles added up so did my riding confidence but I noticed that my front brakes started squeaking under heavy braking. Back at world headquarters I noticed that the brake pads move slightly when pushed by hand and wondered if this was normal or the cause of the squeaking....any advice would be very much appreciated.

The brake pads should always be a little loose,,you should have an anti squeal plate covering the back of the pair of pads, held in with a little clip,once removed you can wobble both pads,,if the plate in both? should be
Another one is contaminated pads,,a leaky seal,fork or caliper piston

Also the old pads may have glazed over, a new set would sort that out.

The pads are newish as are the brake lines.....I'll check the plate and clip is ok...cheers

Is that pad included with new pads, or do you transfer it? Think I might have binned mine at last change if you have to transfer it. Where can I get a replacement for all 4 front pads?

The metal plate behind the pad does not come with the pads. Brake squeal can either be caused by glazed pads or the metal plate behind the pads is dirty. Best solution is to put a thin layer of copper grease on the metal plate between the plate and the back of the pads. It's meant to have some there whenever pads are replaced to prevent brake squeal.
