Grantham
« on: 09 January 2012, 09:00:07 pm »
Bought a house in Grantham today, I'm having to relocate because of work. I'm absolutely terrified, being out of my comfort zone, can anyone calm me down? Have I done the right thing?

My mother in law and her hubby moved to grantham couple of years ago, we visit quite often and find it quite nice.... oooo and if ur near the castle they have a fireworks competition every year (august i think) which is an awesome evening... weve been for the last 2 years....

not great info to settle you but from what weve seen it seems nice, where r u near? they arent far from the asda?!

We're on the St Mellion heights site built by Jelson, it's a little way out of the town, typical new estate but it looks OK

You get out of a place what you put in and can make it what you want it to be.

Don't let the fact that a well known evil witch  :evil came from Granthem put you off, she is far away from there now.
Hope that helps calm you down  :) .

I used to run the Pizza Hut in Grantham. The people are pretty friendly, and theres quite a few bikers around. Most bikers head up to Skeggy or Hunstanton, or Rutland Water on a sunny sunday and the Bottesford Egg run starts outside Nottingham and ends in Grantham and is always well attended. Theres some good biking roads running alongside the A1 as well as a new bike cafe on the A52 heading out of Grantham that do a good cooked brekkie.

I like the idea of a Cafe in Grantham as i m in Leicester Grantham is a nice ride away, so when your settled in I m up for a Breakfast gathering could be before a ride to the coast.
Either way good luck I m sure you ll be fine.

which way is that? Thats the way we go, woiuld be nice to find somewhere for breakfast!
we usually head via Notts and M1, not the most scenic route but usually the fastest and without me getting lost  :o

Head towards Boston on the A52 and you'll see it on the right hand side. Theres a Harley type logo on the sign. Its basically a prefab with a conservatory tagged on the front. Its called the Roman Cafe. (Hope its still there after all this lol)

The A607 AND A6O6 are both good roads but the best is the B6047 from Market Harborough to Melton Mowbray, its one of my favourites anywhere. Ride safe, Su.

the roman cafe has been there for as long as I can remember. It burned down or was knocked down a few yrs back. I too often ride up to the area ever since  a great article in Bike mag in 1996 detailing  a superb ride around Bourne. Never knew it as  a biker cafe per se, but all good news if it has gone that way .
cheers

Thanks Chris, meeting at the cafe and then off for a ride sounds great, although I'm pretty slow these days so I'll meet you where ever we're going.

The people buying my house want us to move out by the end of March. so providing we don't hit any problems I should be there for the spring.

I will look forward to it, and a social ride is a social ride so no worries about speed I m not the fastest. Let me know when you have a date free and i m sure others would join in. A breakfast followed by an Ice-cream at the sea side sounds a good day out to me. What do others in the area think?

Grantham is nice and you are very close to lots of good biker raods / spots lincs bike safe are very active and do some really good cheap track day training.  but of course lincs police are also very active.
