Paid about £130 last year for insurance. Getting quotes for similar policies this year and they're coming in at ~£260 and above.


Need some recommendations guys, not happy about paying twice of last years premium, when I've had no claims and an extra year to throw in to the no claims pot.

I'm Carole Nash mate, full 9+ years no claims..have got multi policy for  '09 fz1 valued at 4500, '07 cb1300 also valued at 4500, what they class as "future classic" '04 Bonnie valued at 2500 and once again their classification " vintage" 1977 gt550 valued at 5000... All in £417 fully comp would have been cheaper but I've got nine points
Only thing I don't like about their policy is since I've had the vintage bike on it I can't have protected NCB for some reason

I have found all my quotes (and other peoples) have been lower this year.

Keep looking. Try the comparison sites then go to the individual company sites to see if its cheaper still.

I've got 1 month left on my policy. I moved house recently and wasn't willing to pay the admin charge to change address. The insurance company say that could invalidate the insurance. It's £30 to change it. I have three options basically.


1) I could stump the fee.


2) I could do nothing and let the policy expire, and renew in a month giving the new address


3) I could buy insurance today, about a month in advance of renewal just to make sure I'm covered. This would work out costing about a tenner rather than the £30 in option 1. The problem with this is I wouldn't be able to prove my no claims until my old policy expires, which is a month away.


Your thoughts?

Don't think they'd accept the no claims, which comes into effect a month after the new policy start date?

So option 3 out unless I declare a year less no claims, which would increase premium making option 3 less effective.


So option 1 or 2 - which is it?

I'd be tempted by 2.the only scenario I could see them wriggling out of a claim, is in the event of theft from the house.

I've just phoned them. I said "I think I need to change the address". He took details, told me I'd save £6 at the new address, but with a £30 admin charge it would cost me £24 to change it. I said "do I not need to change it" and he said "no, because we've ran it through the system and it's lower risk than your old house. If it was higher risk you'd have needed to".


So job done, panic over.

Mind, having said that, make sure you've got a record of his name, date and time of call, just in case... Not that I don't trust the parasites...
Ideally, use an app on your phone that records all calls, so you have your own record...

I have an app for that already - when we were buying our new home there were many phonecalls, and I didn't trust the builders (wrongly I might add) so I started recording them all so I had proof of what they promised us.

Yep I always ask for the name.
Although I used my last years insurance company I did an MCM comparison check and found a cheeper one and my insurance co/ brokers matched it, dont think I can tell you how much because you wont like it as I am a million years old and so is my fazer

I had to pay a £30 admin fee with Hastings on my SR125 because I passed my test! (I'd have been tempted to leave it but as I got a minor bump it seemed best not to have the stress.  I should have switched the policy on to the Fazer at the same time but you live and learn.


Someone else has insured the SR (which I use to get to work) for less, even with the pending claim and included free gear, legal cover and a loaner bike if it's written off. 


I did speak to one guy that was really unhelpful and told me that the top box counted as a modification adding £30 to the policy and said "of course insuring for a pillion will increase the policy", a different person confirmed the top box as an accessory that didn't cost more and neither would pillion use.

Don't know if this helps, but I always found my quotes from The Bike Insurer to be loads cheaper than any of the other comparison sites (gocompare, moneysupermarket etc)

My insurance with motor quote direct was due to expire in November 2013 , but I changed cars in August 2013 , they wanted over £ 200 admin to change , then the renewal would have been over £ 500 in November .  I went online and esure wanted £234 fully comp , so I called esure told them want I wanted to do , they said that the previous insurers have to pass on the NCB , so I phoned the previous insurers , cancelled the insurance , and they emailed me proof of NCB for me to pass on to my new insurance company .
