ACF50 & brakes dont mix
« on: 07 January 2012, 03:35:29 pm »
...FACT!!

Got it on the tyres too so should be an interesting ride!! I was ready to put it away but didn't want to leave it so took it for a ride to try and clear the contamination. Man, basically there were no brakes to start.....got them biting again now but still some way to full power.

Still, i've stuck a big piece of card with "ACF50!!!" on it to remind me for when I use it next as i'll still need to be careful with the tyres etc.

D'OH!!

Sounds like some new pads wouldn't go a-miss, if not for your own safety. Might be worth taking them out and blasting the brake material with a blow torch.

Annoyingly the pads are new. Obviously if they don't come back to proper strength after some mileage then i'll change them. As said, they are biting now, prob 75% of normal and that was after about a 1 mile blip so hopefully they'll clean up.

Will just have to keep it in mind until i'm happy it's all cleared off  :rolleyes

Update

Took it out for a long ride today. Very gingerly at first as though it were wet and I was on new tyres type stylee. Slowly started to feel my way into the tyres one step at a time and for each mile the brakes were improving.

By the end of the run the brakes are tip top again and the tyres have cleaned up and were warm and sticky and  banking into corners no probs.

Just need to do the same thing with my 600 on my commute in the morning (yes, I did the same thing on both bikes whilst cleaning them both!)

Alls well that ends well  :D
