Wanted: VFR750 rear wheel
« on: 14 April 2014, 12:08:52 am »
Bit of a long shot here...  :rolleyes

Anyone got / know of a VFR750 rear wheel (single sided, RC36 onwards) going cheap? I only want the wheel (I have my own tyre), and possibly a rear caliper. Budget for the wheel: no more than £50.

Anyone able to help?

Ah, see I wasn't sure, you started talking in letters as if that was supposed to mean something, instead of giving us a year to work from :lol

Surely there will be one or two breaking on there that you can message about?

Not really, and there are only 2 or 3 wheels on eBay UK, all for silly money.

Why do you? It's a project bike, they're all black holes of time & money!

Do any other wheels fit the VFR750 swing arm?

I got an RVF swingarm for a project but quickly lost interest and sold the arm because I found the following:

Wheel choice is limited
Wheels were expensive - you can find normal race magnesium wheels like Dymag, Marvic, Marchencini etc for the same cash as you will fork out for a heavy std SSA road wheel (unless your lucky/know someone with one etc but I guess if you have time on your hands then one will come up for the right money) - some did come up but were 18" not 17
Unless your not bothered about wheel pattern you need to buy a matching front which generally means a 6 spoke honda wheel - not really  a look I was after personally)
Everything seemed to be hassle with it, brake caliper, sprocket with right teeth for the engine etc

I have seen people put Honda Civic car wheels on the VFR swingarms though, some looked pretty trick - might be worth looking at?  Mine was the single nut RVF one though so wasn't really something I could do.

In the end I decided that a singe sided arm was hassle and a cliché on a project bike so I got the Fazer and put an R1 front end on it.....  :rolleyes

Well you can get 5.5 and 6" civic wheels.  You would need to look into it though, I never bothered to look into what is involved in getting one on, I think they are primarilly for looks though - can't imagine them being very light.

What tyre does that take, Luke?

Thanks for the info, NorthWestern. At the moment, It's cost rather than weight/performance dominating the build.

If you want to fit a 180 tyre then you need a wheel off the early single sides vfr750, the 1994 model on only had a 5" rim, the earlier bikes had a 5.5" rim.

EDIT:

D'oh! Completely misread that!

I want to run a standard 160 Fazer tyre. And I'll get away with that on the 5" rim.
