Securing ya Helmet when out and about
« on: 03 April 2014, 12:25:46 pm »
What do you ppl do with your  Lids?
I usually put mine in the top box but as it will be full of crap on my hols I was wondering what to do with both mine and the wife's lids while off the bike.

Depends where I am. Generally if I'm out shopping I'll carry it around, as unfortunately my lid doesn't quite fit in my top box. But if I'm somewhere respectable and the weather is OK then I'll pop it on top of the seat and lock it with a little lock I carry under my seat. I left it like this while taking a rowing boat out last week... all very quaint don't you know! No one has taken a dump in it yet.

Will you be carrying around any rucksacks at all? I used to use the strap on the helmet and thread it through one of the straps on the backpack - still have space in the backpack and keeps your arms free :)

Just need to establish if you both have arms or not before I make a suggestion, don't want to offend and all that ...

Haha, cheeky boy!  :lol

Carrying it can be a pain though. Where I live then if it's dry, not very often, then I set it on the ground next to the bike and if it's wet then just carry it. Nobody's going to nick it here though... I used to hang it on the wing mirror but then decided that was a bad idea. there are fold out luggage loops just above the rear indicators, could use them?

In Europe capital cities the rail stations have left luggage systems so park near a station or walk to one and thinking about it my local Morrisons has trolley lockers I presume so once paid for shopping can secure the shopping while going to toilet, so perhaps put ya ger in a trolley and lock away, Bit cheeky but hey needs must

If it's "safe" to do so then I use a shotgun lock that I keep under the seat.  You put the chin guard on the rear passenger peg so the helmet is hanging facing up, the shotgun lock then goes round the chin guard and through the small holes on the foot hanger. You can then push the padlock into the helmet and close the visor over the cable.

They're only £2.50 on ebay and are just long enough to do the job.

I usually carry mine with me, but have used the prong Yamaha thoughtfully provided under the seat for that purpose.

My 01 and 02 FZS600s had the little hook under the seat.  If it's dry and a respectible area I will keep my helmet on that.

I've got an extending pushbike cable lock that I use. I thread it through my jacket arm and chinpiece then lock it to the bike when I want to leave  on the bike in the summer. It's 1/2 the size of a mobile phone, so no probs carrying it.

only hook I've seen on the 03 are those for bunji straps and they aren't lockable.

Cheers guys, like the sound of the shotgun lock seems like a good deterrent.
Shotgun would be useful too if you catch the scrotes trying to nick it...

Oh yes just looked on ebay.   I suppose you could lock it to the handlebars between the risers
using that lock

I've found I can lock the strap under the seat, as it's a seat belt style chin strap I have I can wedge the buckle between the plastic side panels and frame, replace the seat on top of it and voila, it's locked to the bike.
