End of an era
« on: 22 March 2014, 09:14:49 pm »
Tomorrow my XJR1200 is going to a new home up North :'(

I can honestly say I've had some fun times on it and during our time together it never let me down once.

Thanks for the memories.

always a cool looking bike. I remember testing a XJR back in mid 90s with twin open cans. Boy it sounded fab. Incredible torque too. Like the GSX14, these older big fours felt and sounded almost like a big twin than a buzzing four. Felt inbetween a fazer and a cruiser to ride.

In comparison to the Fazer. Apart from two wheels, an in line four and other on board tackle, there is none. It's 1/4 tonne and got more torque than Jeremy Clarkson and Chatty Man put together. It is its own bike. Mine did have a few mods done to it to keep it under manners when ridden in typical Kosmic style. Progresive Ohlins springs in the front, Telefix fork brace, proper Ohlins up back and a few other performance and cosmetic tweaks. It does take a lot of muscle to ride it hard and it will rip your neck muscles off if thrashed from London to Yorkshire, or to Cornwall.

Two up with camping gear and panniers is what it's built for. And it will do it with ease and comfort... except when you start reaching those three figure numbers - those neck muscles again. Me and my Mrs loved getting out on this bike.

Draw backs were it ate rear disc rotors and a few chains. Clutch slave cylinder seals lasted about a year. 80,000+ miles and the engine never missed a beat.

I would have liked to have kept it but four bikes is far to many bikes to move to a new home. It's gone to a good home and will be looked after. I will see it again as it was sold to a friend of mine.
