FZS1000 Rear Calliper Fitted to my 600.
« on: 27 December 2011, 08:59:17 pm »
Hi all.. just spend the evening in the shed fitting the blue spot calliper I got a few weeks back.. all went well and jobs done.. well happy with the result. Only thing I was worried about was bleeding the calliper.. I fitted the brake line and forgot I had the nipples loose on the calliper.. after a few minutes brake fluid starting running out on its own!
I used an old brake disc to pump the pistons out and it more or less bled itself.. couldn't believe my luck!

A lot better looking than the original!

Matches the front now.

I gather others who have done this mod have noticed the calliper isn't centre on the disc? I used a washer as marked on the above pic to centre it. Does leaving it slightly to one side make any difference?
All in all good evenings work!

I had the same problem with lining mine up. I used a washer between the caliper and the bracket and It lines up fine now.

Recently fitted some OEM yam pads on the rear too, next mod will be some 'pro bolt' disc bolts front and rear.

By any chance are the OEM pads gold and made by sumitomo? when i bought the bike that's what the front had in them and the rear calliper came with those too?. I replaced with GG EBC as they hadn't worn evenly.

Yeah thats them.

I rode a Fazer with the orginal pads not long ago, massive difference over the ebc gg's I've got on mine, will be changing to them soon though, cost a bit mind.

The genuine pads are around £35 each side.. i know the EBC are cheaper but i guess you get what you pay for. I agree fully EBC are nowhere near as good as the OEM but big difference in price.

just completed the mod myself, much more feel although I can lock the rear now  :D

The caliper being off centre isn't an issue as the pads will self align and the offset isn't enough to cause one of the pistons to pop out. If using washers I think I would grind them flat and to the same size before fitting them to ensure a flat mating area.

Exscuse the filthiness of mine, it is a commuter and gets used a lot  :'(

Looks good Lumpy, i have not tried mine yet as i dont take it out in the winter.. its been in the shed wrapped up since october  :'( .. i used calipers to make sure the washers were the same size and they are nice and flat so all should be good. I may take them off again but will decide when i get it out again.

shouldn't be a biggy but I am quite fussy over brakes and stuff. What a difference it makes though to effectiveness and appearance. It's the cleanest part on mine at the moment, the rest is rather, er, soiled  :lol  but there is not many days in any weather she isn't used.

Ah right good stuff, told you they fitted the 600  ;)  lol. I put new pins in it along with new pads and other than a clean it bolted straight on with the mod of the hanger. Feels better than stock but will know better when get out out on the road after the winter.

takes a bit of getting used to as it will lock the rear quite easily now  :o  much much better than a partially seized original  :lol

I use the Fazer all year round, the Bird for fun, and the XS11 most of the year and for fun. The car only ever moves at weekends or some evenings. I guess I only drive the 22 miles to work 2 or 3 times a year.
