Satisfied!
« on: 16 March 2014, 11:25:26 am »
A glorious sight to see fresh clean oil through the little oil level window. And what a monumental ball ache it was removing the filter!  My oil filter removal cap was 76mm, Fazer filter 70mm.  Take 2 - chain wrench only to find my tool kit didn't have a 1/2 inch extension bar to poke through the cage of the downpipes.  Take 3 - drive screwdriver through filter (not the best idea) and prise off that way - succeeded only in destroying filter.  Take 4 - buy extension bar for chain wrench, that worked but still an absolute pain.  Sill, its a Fazer with lovely clean oil and as i look out of my window, the sun is hardly shining but it's dry so i'm off out

Recheck the level after letting the bike tick over for a minute, i bet you need a little bit more oil.  ;)

Thanks!  Its a very good point as once the first batch of oil went in i did exactly that.  Turned the engine on then re-checked the little window and most of the oil had gone :D .
Swift top and sorted - boring addition but used Motul 5000 10 W40 semi synthetic.

Bike already sounds 'cleaner'!

I ordered my oil and filter and magnetic sump plug yesterday so hopefully Wednesday I can change this. This might make me sound an idiot but I had planned on just removing the filter by hand as I don't have a tool, always managed to do this with cars in the past, is it a different story with the bike though?

I ordered some Silkolene 10w40 the filters part of a kit so just a champion one, wanted to get a new plug and thought for a couple of extra quid may as well go magnetic.

The filter is the same as a car one and you should be able to undo it with your hands.......but, this depends if its been put on right ie not too tight  :rolleyes   also your going to need small hands to squeeze between/ behind the downpipes.....good luck and as always , let us know how you get on  :)

Are magnetic sump plugs worth getting? I'll splash out if so.

Knuckle bashing time :) .

Use a kid....fill them with that mega e number sherbet stuff from a dib dab or whatever you call them & then say to them i bet you cant twist that filter off.......woola....tiny hand kid strength will prevail 8)

Dunno if the Mrs would be happy to see melted skin on the little ones hands lol. I bought a set of oil filter pliers today hopefully they'll let me get a grip on the bugger tomorrow. If that fails the Mrs has quite small hands maybe I can convince her to have a go :)

Dunno if the magnetic sump plugs are worth it but I thought it'll give me an indication of whether anything nasty is going on inside at next oil change.
