i'm going to make a 'kick ass' style superhero outfit from the top, trousers, socks and balaclava.

My missus would actually LOVE that!
Seriously though, they would come in handy for next winter i reckon.
Now, i wonder what those flip up lids would be like for commuting?  Comes with a spare visor too.

My lad swears by them, and he's crashed nearly as much as cristoT. :-\

But seriously 3b, they have to pass some pretty vigorous tests. I think it's rare they come open in a crash. They do tend to be a bit noisyer than closed lids though.

When I hit that Merc, I went down chin first. Wearing a flip front lid. I still have a chin, the catch held (on a two-year old, used daily lid to boot!)

Looking at that socket set http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/SID-C56D7703-B8CCA38B/www_lidl_uk/hs.xsl/our-offers-2491.htm?action=showDetail&id=10231
Doesn't look like there is anything big enough in there for the rear axle nut - can anyone tell me I'm wrong and save me a few quid on a more expensive set?  :D

you`ll be lucky to find a scocket set that includes one big enough to fit the rear wheel, buy a standard set and then the wheel scocket  on its own  ;)

/\ +1, head down Halford and buy the socket separately, or ebay.

I know everyone slates the sharp testing, my old flip up (HJC IS max i think) opened 40% of the time in crashes

I have gone back to full face, just feels better built to me

Edit: found it, stayed shut 40% not opened

Make sure you ask for a trade card, take proof of employment and tell them you deal with servicing the work vans ;)

Fuel filter at £28 and headlamp bulbs at £17 set me back £27 with the card :D  Tools get a discount too :)

Although, walking to collect the item from the eBay seller, no matter how far, is usually quicker than waiting for assistance in Halfords to get something out of the fucking locked glass cases... which is where 90% of the useful stuff is.

I have given up trying to buy their stuff

Just been and had a nosey at the bike gear. The underlayers are pretty good, bit there's no way I'd put my head anywhere near one of those lids! They look and feel very cheap. Even the gloves were more like armoured cycling gloves.

I got the socks, and despite what the above posters have said, thought I'd try the lid.
I gave one a pretty good thumping in the store.
Yes, it does feel cheap, corners are clearly cut. But this costs less than a visor for my 7yr old Roof that desperately needs a visor... And it comes with a spare visor, plus various replacement pads.
I got home and messed with the pads and have got a pretty good fit. The flip up seems like it'll take a beating.

Would I trust it on a fast ride or track session? Probably not.

Would I trust it for my commute, where I average 25mph? Sure. And that's how I plan to use it.

All Kick Ass'ed up in the under garments. Socks seem good to and thinner than Aldi's.
Next stop Aldi see what their gear is like this year.

I actually got some gloves for use in the maybe my first month of fair weather riding when it is still a bit cold,
I've actually already got some mega thin really hot weather furygan summer gloves and my hope is that i can squeeze these under the lidl ones for extra protection...like double bagging.
