Handlebars

Hi All
 
Has anyone changed their handle bars from the standard ones? I would like to get my weight forward over the front a little more.
 
Doh! I am on a Gen1!
 
Any suggestions? Or known issues in doing the change.

Hi and welcome to the Forums.
I beleive Renthal 758's are a popular choice and should suit your needs, not fitted them myself but someone who has will be along shortly.

Yup 758's work well and are a good fit.
 
Only issues:
 
- bar ends. You will need to buy generic ones or 'tap' the new bars to accept the originals
 
- new bars on full lock may slightly foul bigger (i.e. wider) after market screens

Hi and welcome.

Renthal 758s are virtually the same as stock bars in terms of width and rise.  Wider by 40mm overall, though.  What makes them preferable to stock bars is that they don't have such a pronounced sweep back on the ends.  They're also much stronger.  I have them on mine.  Nice.

If you want to go lower and further forward, consider the Renthal 658s which are more of a straight bar.  I've also had these in the past and they're a lot sportier.

Don't be fooled by the Road Ultra Low description of the 758s.  They're not the lowest on offer.

+1 on the 758's
i know some cut them down to make them shorter but i prefer them slightly wider. the brace that the renthals have is also great for mounting phones/satnavs and cuddly toys :P

i would like to try 658's at some point as now my hip and back are stronger and i can get a bit more crouched over.

I have the 758s fitted, as far as the bar ends are concerned I've put oberon stainless steel ones on. I found the bars are a little more comfortable than the stock ones. You do have to drill them for switch gear if you want to keep the locating spuds on. So a decent drill will be in order.

+1 for the 758s - also tapped them to take the original bar ends, 'cos the cheapo alloy ones don't cut the mustard

I've the 658's on mine and far prefer the weight over the front wheel - only issue was a clearance problem with the brake hose, not a major issue but a bit of a fudge none the less.

Hi  I have Renthal bars and matching bar ends with no problem of vibration, you can cut them about 1/2 inch shorter either end if you wish. Do not forget to drill holes in the bars for the lighting and switch gear. Wrap masking tape around the bars in the vicinity of the holes before drilling. Mark the peg on the inside of the switch with permanent marker or like, place swicthgear in the position you require and press, thus marking the masking tape with the position of the hole required. Do this with handlebars in the centre clamps and sit on bike to get the positon you require. Best of luck. Mike.

Can the 758 bars come with the brace? As all the ones I have seen don't come with it, or can one be brought separately and fitted?
