Advice on fitting Renthal bars.
« on: 11 February 2014, 06:55:45 pm »
Have just bought some Renthal 755 bars for my 2003 FZS600. Anything pitfalls or advice i should know about ?Im seem to remember reading somewhere that they need to be shortened a bit, If this is so, is it ok to take an angle grinder to them ? Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated.  :)

The switch gear has little locating pegs to stop them rotating. Measure and then measure again and then measure a third time before you drill the holes to locate them.

They only need shortened if you do lots of commuting and filtering and feel that you want extra clearance.

Otherwise enjoy the extra leverage.

Apparently the type of material they are made of makes it unwise to cut them as it potentially weakens them.Prob makes no difference in reality.

Apart from that if you use the search tool there's lots and lots of recent advice and pics on fitting them. 8)

Very useful video for you:

Chris

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

I wouldn't want to drill holes in my handlebars to be honest.  File the plastic nub down a little then put a bit of silver foil under the switchgear, holds mine in place just fine.

I also filed off the locating tabs, never had a problem with rotating..

I always did drill 'em rather than file off the lugs just incase i had a change of heart n wanted to refit the originals..
Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it..
