New Top Gear
« on: 02 February 2014, 09:18:47 pm »
Anyone else watch the new episode of Top Gear tonight? I wasn't too impressed, TBH. The idea of the 80s hot hatches were good, but they ruined it by pissing about too much at the end. It's really gone down the drain, didn't find it that funny at all.  :(

It was ok, too scripted unfortunately... :\

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Am about half way through it, Clarkson is being a knob destroying the supermarket, and am wondering why I'm wasting my time.

I have to agree I think it was a great oppertunity missed !
its now to much of a show about the three of them rather than about cars and bikes !  not that they have done anything worth while bike realated for years !

I stopped watching it ages ago. Its not a motoring programme any more.

Sadly, it's not been a motoring show for years, just an excuse for the three stars to behave in an adolescent manner. Everything's contrived, scripted, rehearsed and the whole format is stale.
Remember last season's "race" between two free-runners and Dougie Lampkin around TV Centre? Every shot was painstakingly set up, rehearsed and umpteen takes recorded... shooting took three days!

I watch it occasionally but prefer to watch 5th gear on channel 5. Vicky Butler Henderson having a squealy orgasm every time she puts her foot down.

Best thing about Top Gear nowdays is crumpet spotting in the audience. Strangely they are always standing at the front in camera shot as well :lol

That so called supermarket item was pointless and pathetic I thought.
Shame as I do like Clarkson and co.

I didn't watch it and doubt I will. The 3 of them are overpaid halfwits. James May is the only mildly intelligent one amongst them but even he has fell into the 'arsing about like children' trap. Top Gear used to be a programme about affordable new and 2nd hand cars but now its total shite fuelled with biased opinions. Lets be honest though, the only thing a product review is at the end of the day is someone else's opinion.

God you're  a moany lot.

Since its new inception this was never a consumers car show it was always boys cocking about, which just happened to feature some cars. Mainly cars we will rarely see let alone get to drive.

If i wanted advise on a car i would go to Which, or heaven forbid ask you lot. :lol

Carry on cocking about i say. Its better than some shitty talent show.

There used to be a few more product reviews in the early seasons, but Top Gear has always remained faithful to Supercars and the like as well

I quite like Jeremy Clarkson, Hammond and May but the latest seasons do occasionally take things a little too far

I totally agree it's an entertainment show rather than an information show.

However things like the supermarket scene in the new episode were just too silly, Clarkson wasn't even  trying to get around the course and then Hammonds car coming over the line on it's side. I'd just prefer it if it was less scripted/edited.

I'll continue to watch it though as I do love some of the camera work and the supercars they show. I really like a lot of the challenges they do but the more recent series' have just gone a bit far... In my humble opinion.  :b

I watched this on the iplayer today...well i only watched the hot hatch bit and yes it was OTT.
and it showed me for the chav i really am..
i used to have a Nova SR.......& yes i did actually put it in a ditch and yes it was fun :)
& i had 3 Mk2 golf gti's, 2 8 valves and 1 16 valve
Plus my last Mk2 golf i modified with RS turbo Recaro seats on the golf mountings :car ...... :foc

Anyway if top gear had hot hatches on every week then i'd be hooked but as others have said they are trying too much to please everyone at the moment, it's more entertainment to keep the wifes happy..with a smattering of cars...it's more a show for bankers now who can afford Merc CLK's and Jags..only a matter of time before theres a live phone in from home involving votes and a panel of celebrities deciding which car is best. :rolleyes .

even then it is probably the best thing on telly on a sunday night.

shocking stopped watching it years ago, nothing more than a shop window for Clarkson to sell DVD`s & books to people who lack the intellectual horse power to understand they are being had
i don`t have anything profound or funny to write so .............................

I also enjoyed the Hot Hatch part for its creation of nostalgia as I had 2x Mk2 Golf GTi's (8v) as well ^^

Awesome cars and I would probably buy one again, but a decent example - not the two dogs I had before :P

... I still haven't paid more than £500 for a car. Ever. :\

I like Top Gear, and I like the 3 of them messing around.  I thought Sundays episode spent too long on the hot hatch.  I didn't think it was one of their best.  Hopefully plenty of supercars next week.

I had a very early 8v, with the small bumpers,  it was a peach, very torquey..it was previously owned by my dad....for his birthday once i got him a full set of Billstein dampers and springs and man did that thing handle like a rollerskate.......about a year later i went in for the kill, this was in 2001......i swapped my dad my N reg Vauxhall Astra 1.4 bore bore :z  for his golf  :deal :woot :woot :woot

Since then i have owned
*Honda Civic Type R
*VW Polo GTI
*Renault Clio (company car)
*Seat Leon TDI 90 mapped to 125
*Suzuki Ignis Sport
*Skoda Fabia Diesel
*Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo (current car)

so i've basically wasted lots of money on cars since that swap in 2001.........what's my dad driving now........still the Vauxhall Astra the bastard!!!, it never missed a beat, totally reliable as foc, rusting a bit now though with 140k on the clock.
there's gotta be a moral to the story somewhere. :)

If my Golfs had been in decent condition, I would probably still be driving them now :P

My total car history goes something like;

Peugeot 106
Peugeot 306 (Blew up...)
Peugeot 106 (Yup, same one)
Golf Mk2 GTi (Gave up on life)
Golf Mk2 GTi (Gave up on life before I bought it :\ )
MG ZS 180 Saloon (Current Car)

The only 3 I bought were the two Golfs and the MG. The most expensive was the first Golf at £500 :P

Yes enjoy watching TopGear with my 12year old son. It makes him laugh out loud :)   Personally I thought the hot hatch sketch was a bit naff but looking forward to the rest of the series.
Edit .. yes I didn't like the blatant vandalism smashing up those old walls??!
