The advisories include from things like "tyres older than 5 years" and "slight corrosion on floor pan" which are small issues that don't need huge attention (the floor pan will be dealt with soon)

But there are a few items like "front brake discs slightly corroded and slightly worn" as well as "both rear trailing arm bushes slightly perished and require attention soon" which definitely need to be looked at and sorted.

Also, I got an advisory for my headlight aim being almost too low! That has to be one of the rare occasions that gets issued... I imagine most other vehicles have the opposite issue of the beam being too high :P

Fiddled with the FJ 1200 - got a Thundercat 17" back wheel which after measuring seems as though it'll be a simple fit. Wheel spindle is the same diameter (although the 'Cat one is hollow), just 8mm to take off the spacer on the chain side and 8mm skim off the caliper carrier on the other side. Sprocket is the same offset from the wheel centre-line as the FJ and the FJ sprocket even fits straight onto the 'Cat carrier. Rear FJ caliper also fits directly onto the 'Cat carrier and the torque arm mountings are the same. Woo hoo!

There's a very slight difference in the numbers cast into the wheel from the 'Cat and the wheel on my son's '03 Fazer. I've checked out the brake elements as well and they're all different - but I haven't taken the Fazer wheel out to check the wheel unit itself.

As luck would have it, I can't lay my hands on the spacer for the brake-side (the one that sits between the bearing and the caliper carrier) - so I think I"'ll have to trawl for one - as the caliper mounts are different, I can't use a Fazer spacer.

As Christo says and as far as I know the wheels are the same with the only difference being that the FZS600 colour is  Low Gloss black LGB and Thundercat colour is Blusish Black BIB2
Check the part numbers, they are made of 12 alphanumeric characters up like xxx-xxxxx-xx-xx. The last two normally relate to the colour of the item. If it is only the last two characters which are different then the parts are interchangable but colour is different.

Thanks for the info guys, but I already had the Thundercat complete rear wheel assembly (except that I seem to have mislaid a spacer).

If all goes to plan, the only two bits of work to do are taking some material of a spacer and the caliper carrier, then that seems like a real result, with minimum fuss and work.

I'll let you all know how it goes.  :)

I've also got a complete EXUP RU front end (with Ducati discs, Fazer master cylinder & "blue spot" calipers) to go in, but am waiting for the bottom triple clamp to come back - prior owner had fitted the forks & clamps into a Kawasaki and had swapped the stem.

Mind you, if anyone has a spare triple clamp with standard stem, that would be a quicker/easier solution.

Too windy to really enjoy myself in the helicopter, so spent the day in the garage - Put new bearings in the suspension linkages on the FJ 1200, and wound on a couple of extra turns on the preload. Also took off the exhaust and gave it a good clean (all stainless, so a pleasant task) - will have to put it back on next week !

The thumb survived my attempts at amputation with the drill, so my finger decided to see if it could go one better with the bandsaw.  :eek :eek

Put some new clutch plates plus an extra one in the FJ..... Now no more slippage on heavy acceleration!!! It'll have to do until I can find a Barnett clutch conversion.

Ridden 36 miles on my mountain bike this morning - been preparing for my annual ride from Whitehaven to Sunderland (known as the C2C route) next weekend -150 miles of pedalling over 3 days (and plenty of drinking each evening).

Liz and I organise the ride to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support. This year we've got around 30 riders (normally 30 to 50), have had to keep it small due to lack of support crew volunteers.

But, we've got a good mix of old friends/experienced C2C'ers and new victims, oops sorry, new companions, so it should be a great weekend yet again.

Sat in the POFS Peugeot at the side of the road, cursing, waiting for the feckin' RAC!!!

The bloody exhaust decided to shear off, so now I need a new middle section. Argh!!  :wall :wall

Fuck what my parents say, the minute it's done, the Fazer's getting insured and the Pug's going up for sale! Never had any problems like this on my old Fazer!

I'm beginning to think its you... my Peugeot 106 (same 1.5L diesel engine) was super reliable and never gave me that much trouble. It may be loud, but you should be able to drive it with the exhaust hanging off... I had to do a 30 mile journey home when mine did exactly the same thing. The great thing about the small pugs is that parts are nice and cheap - super cheap if you do the work yourself :D Brand new exhaust from front to rear cost me about £80 I think

On a side note... I'm beginning to plan the work on my MG and doing research in to project car... could be good fun ^^
