Third times the charm?
« on: 20 January 2014, 06:58:42 am »
Ok guys so most of you know I powdercoated the frame red.......wel I think now in the long run it was a bad idea... Due to the fact that it looks shit in every picture I take of it

So I'm going to strip it again...yes this will be the third full strip I'v done since I got the bike, and I'v only just fixed her up and running wel :-(.

I can't afford to redo the powdercoating so might just hang frame from roof of shed and spray with ye-old spray can? Bike frame will still be powdercoated protected just changing the colour eh? Going back to the black is the safest bet me thinks.

Think I might time myself this time,
I'm aiming for 3-4 hours to having just frame, wiring loom and all out haha

Back in October christo showed you what it would look like in red and other colours and I said do it silver. Im sorry it seems im rubbing it in but here is the post's, you were warned how it would look.
If you just spray it on top of the powder coat it just chip and scratch off. You have my full respect for your skill in stripping down the bike, but I would just leave it now and grow to love it
I thought it might look cool with a red frame too. So I had a friend photoshop some frame colours for me. I was surprised by the result - and not pleasently.

Tell your friend hes done a great photoshop job.
With a black fazer I think that the silver looks the best -----------------in fact I like it vey much and think it should of been that colour all along.
Just a note on the photoshop silver is that the actual silver will look much better as silver in a photoshop job like that is inpossible to do and can look just grey, but should give an idea.
I fancy polishing my cam end caps, can I just take em off or will lots of engine stuff fall out

Yea I was warned, only myself to blame, thought it would look good at the time but now I'm not so sure, up close it looks good but stand back and take a foto of it it looks pink,& shit, hmmm, wel I have to paint the engine anyway so might aswel put frame back to original colour, still glad I got the powdercoating done though even though it was wrong colour, just I know frame won't rot now

Looks good to me, I would stay with it. Maybe some matching red on the tank, fairing, mudguard and rear plastic would look good but as I'm not really the arty type maybe others can come up with some suggestions. What about the decals from the red 1999- 2000 'S' model that someone was asking about recently or something along those lines with paint?

Polish them? Lol p60 grade sandpaper won't take that shite of a hahahha, never though of doing anything with the grap rail to be honest, it's not even black,

I have a friend who's father works in a stainless steel factory, he is taking a pillion foot peg with him to see if the guys in the polishing dept can so anything with them... If so them half the bike is being sent lol, I tried the mirror shine on the swing arm....didn't work out so trying a different approach.

I felt I was a bit hard on you so I have done a mock up for you as per red98 idea
The pegs are not stainless steel but are alloy and will polish up easy with metal polish but will tarnish and dull again after a while

Oh sorry I know there alloy, it's not being done the same as stainless, just polishing, but he's not sure if it will do much for the Swingarm with the anodised coating..
I did buy myself some baking powder but can't remember the mixture with water to remove the coating, and it's a pain with the sandpaper, just can't get it all of

I agree. I think you need MORE red, not less, to help balance out the black. What about a red leather seat? Probably pricey though.

Here you are then, any more and im just going to google for a red fazer
Many years ago I recovered a seat once myself - just get some red faux leather or even cheeper vinal and it will streach over the origional and fix it like the origional I think its just stapled or somthing

Your local sign makers can do the decals in red for you

Maybe a matching set of bright red leather trousers and jacket will offset it......with tassles of course?  :rollin :rollin :rollin
