Do an unrestricted quote and find the cheapest insurers then go to their websites directly. It may be that they don't support the restriction through their aggregator channels - I work in this industry (albeit travel insurance) and the politics of it all is insane. For specialist products (insurance on a restricted bike isn't standard) its often best to go outside of the comparison sites.

I tried that, and then I got an error message: "We cannot provide you with a quote". So i think I'm stuck with a bike that's under 33bhp.

What do people think of this?

Just me though & i am known for wasting good money

I meanif youre gonna go down that road id say youd be better off with cbr 125, regardless of outright speed youd still have fun but that old 80's honda i dont think will cut the mustard for you.

Jus sayin! :rolleyes

Maybe not. But as a workhorse? Looks good! Plus, I need a bike to take me back to France regularly too. Got to factor that in. The VT looks pretty decent. I'll do a test ride first, make sure it's OK of course!

ROFL!! And anyway, it's £200 over budget. As for the Bros, Exupnut said it was a uncomfortably pokey - and he's shorter than I am!

EDIT: Also found the VT250-FII. Do want!

Well let us know how you get on with that test ride, the net recons a ballache to work on but if it doesn't need any maintenance then apparently a decent enough experience.

I mean how long are you talking about keeping it,if it was just a year then you could get away with flogging it again before any money needs spending on it.

Then get a  :faz

Well...

If I get it, I was thinking of modding a Fazer style fairing for it. The VT250-FII looks the tits with it's full fairing! I might do something like that to it.  :)

IF being the important word. And I've decided to wait until AFTER I've secured a job to go look / spend money.

You assume I plan to spend that much? I am quite prepared to spend all day in there arguing them down. I want a bike, I refuse to spend more than X on it, X is a wee bit more than what I want to spend, time for a fight with the salesman!  :lol :lol :lol

The GPZ and the GS are both good suggestions, but there is a huge problem.

The 33bhp restrictor.

Not many insurers want to touch a restricted rider. When I was looking at a Fazer 400, insurance for me cost £500. Add a restrictor, and the price rocketed to £1,500.

The VT250 may be a stopgap - assuming I get a job, that is...

THat's funny that Christo, my insurance companies really didn't care. I'm suspeecting you're adding that in on a comparison site which does screw around with values, best couple I used were Carole Nash, and a company called wicked quotes. Both charged me about £400 for my honda hornet 600 (more expensive than a fazer to insure) at 18 and 19 respectively. Do think that your accident will be a hefty cause unfortunately though :/

The wages of sin are death... but the wages here are a lot worse!!   :lol :lol :lol
