yep i really like them nick - you're nowhere near me are you? oxford way. i've done a few of my home town, thame, but compared with yours they seem a bit mechanical, you seem to have caught something of the place.

Actually, yes, I'm in Carterton, other side of Oxford to you.

Superb detail in that drawing. I tend to be a bit lazier and suggest detail. Also, I haven't actually done a lot "on location" but work from photos quite often. Laziness is another of my hobbies!  :lol
I did once take a ride to Finchingfield in Essex when I lived nearer to there, and sat on the bike to do some sketching there - nice subjects in that village - that's probably the last time I actually sketched on the spot, maybe 5 years ago.
Do you have any particular inspirations? I have (or had - can't seem to find it at the moment) a brilliant book by David Cox, a 1900 reproduction of a volume originally produced in 1815, in which the artist has done some wonderful sketches of the kind of buildings typical of the countryside of the time - a very important historical record in my view, and hard to find such excellent subjects these days. There are a couple of very old barns and farm outbuildings near here that I first saw from the top deck of a bus before I had my current bike (you can't see them from nearer road level due to high hedges etc). I keep meaning to go and ask the owners if they mind if I spend a couple of hours sketching them, but haven't got around to that yet - maybe next summer.

that drawing I posted above is quite large so it looks detailed because it is reduced.

is this by David Cox?

I quite like Gordon Cullen

I used to have an MZ, MZ EtZ 251, at the time I drew this for a club newsletter (sorry it has come out so massive, I'm not very technical)

The blade is made from 01 high carbon steel and the handle is spalted beech , the blacklines are caused by fungi .The handle is shaped to fit the hand .

Made loads of friends after i join BMFA (which u should do for the public liability insurance). I'm a musician. Play guitar and sing. Songs by others, songs of my own.

You'll regularly find me  entertaining folks in pubs around the Huntingdon area.

I even got played on Absolute Radio last year. Which was nice!  :D

I got into tuning and making bits for air rifles, more specificallytheoben rapids, a few years back. A good mate and engineer taught me how to use my lathe and the science of air stripping, moderating and silencing to build very efficient shrouds and moderators. My own gun is this, a .20 rapid with a two stage carbon fibre shroud. The only part I didn't build is the block, all the internals are home built including the "rocket" valve. The lothar walther barrel is 21 1/2 inches long( turned down so it's super skinny for lightness) and ends only one inch from the start of the two stage shroud. Air is stripped from the pellet not once but twice, and all you hear is a dull phut , even when the pellets speed is in excess of 1000 feet per second. On the 110 ft range at hereward gun club just outside of Peterborough it will hit a five pence piece every time, mangling it in the process. It will shoot heavy (14.3grain) crosman prem pellets at speeds in excess of 1200 feet per second, but as the speed of sound is approx 1130 ft/sec, anything over that gets you a sonic boom( deafening believe it or not) then a pellet that flies supersonic. Supersonic is not a problem, but as it's speed decreases and it drops back into subsonic, the pellet flies all over the place giving you a shotgun scatter effect, useless for accuracy. As such I shoot at 900 ft/ sec, a good balance between power and air useage( the buddy bottle is filled to 220 bar, I think that's about 4000 psi!)
Strangely, as much as I love shooting, I hate killing anything, as such I don't hunt with it, it's just long range sniping small targets that floats my boat :-)

.....And this winter I've kinda started looking at getting older bikes and doing them up to sell. I'm really wanting a zephyr 750 or 1100 I can turn into something like this/or an affordable z1 rep, but they are getting harder to find at a reasonable price. I missed a 1100 the other day at a bike shop in Ramsey, cambs..it was only £1200 and not only was it in good original condition with low miles, but it was US imported, so had the yank spec spoked wheels. Would only have taken a clean and paint job to have made nice z1 rep bike with decent rubber and brakes to boot, compared to the seventies bike it would be copying.
