Ignition lock question

As my barrel is getting very worn after 72k miles, the key can be pulled out with the ignition on, I know the 2003 on have a different switch, so I need to know can the switch part be swapped over? The reason I need to know is there are no 2001-2002 lock sets for sale but a few 2003 on lock seta.

Mine did that for a couple of years, I just lived with it rather than replacing all the barrels, too much hassle if you ask me.

As far as I am aware there should be no difference between the 2002 and 2003 lock sets. All I can tell you from recent experience when looking for a genuine 'Key blank' for my 2002 Gen 1 was that Yamaha did not list a 'Key blank' for the 2001 or 2002 models but they did list one for the 2003 models. I took the risk and bought one and it turns out its the correct item so this could well be the case with the lock sets aswell.

Not familiar with that bike, have you got a factory fitted immobiliser on yours?

I noticed the same on mine and now I put the key back in my pocket after switching on. One really good bump and I'm sure it could jump out, it's so loose.

Not a straight swap. The later ones have a different plug set up. Mostly down to the later having a different light switch set up.
There may be a way to cut and join but not able to plug and play.
Brought 3 sets in all before I worked out the difference.
Got one from a breaker in the end but did cost me over the odds at 80 quid for a lock set.

 The switch mechanism can be removed from the bottom of the lock unit and be either cleaned or replaced.
