Just taken an mt09 for a spin.

Went to Raceways in Fleetwood for a set of brake pads, and there it was, the mt09 spanking new.
I paid for my pads and was asked did I want to take it out for a spin. Silly question really. ......
Within the first 10 seconds I was giggling like a schoolboy with his first porn mag. This thing is a hoot and a half! Massive torque from almost tickover, and it keeps on pulling up to about 12k!!!!
It's like sitting on a light supermoto with twin turbo nitrous power, it's awesome!
It's a hooligan tool, for that there's no doubt. It was trying to wheelie off every roundabout at very low revs! It's a Sunday blast tool, but an every day ride, Erm, no!
Controls feel a bit fisher price, and the mode button works, but would probably get ignored after a while.
I even think it looks cool! Can't wait for a faired version.

I wonder how hard it would be to mod an FZ-1 fairing to a MT-09?

Also, I'm sure Skidmarxx and other companies will soon produce fairings for the bike. And if you're really keen, write and ask them! (they have a contact form on their site for custom orders like this).

Shame about the every day ride, I'd love one but would need to commute on it.

Then again, would you say an FZS600 is a good everyday bike anyway? Would the MT-09 be any worse?

I'd be more inclined to modify a C90 fairing, but I already did that on my old T'cat, plus I'm a bit weird like that!

The fzs is probably one of the best all weather, do it all bikes I've ridden, shame mine is going soon :-\
The mt09 might be a bit of a handful in bad weather such as sub zero due to the huge bottom end torque, so maybe not an ideal commuter.

I had a quick look through the mt09 parts catalogue, and there is a bolt on flyscreen available already. Doesn't look too bad at first glance either.

Isn't this exactly what the mode switch is for though? A setting for a more tame power delivery that would be more usable in poor conditions?

Even in 'B' mode, it's still very torquey, albeit with less throttle snatch and a bit more gentle power delivery.
 I'd still be a bit cautious in slippery conditions though.
But it's not for that, it's for having HUGE FUN on.

Oh yeah stevie....ditching a fazer eh ......at least youve still got the best fazer to fall back on...the boxeye 600 .....awww i feel all warm saying that.....let me say it again for everyone else....boxeye fazer!!!

I guess that's acceptable if it's only for "recreational" use, for want of a better word. Clearly, with no kind of fairing it's not meant for touring. Again, I'd be interested to see what other set-ups this engine gets used in.

I didn't take it out long enough to find that Out, but it'd be bloody annoying!

And sadly it's the boxeye that's going, not the fz1.
So I'm looking for another cheap commuter.

The Flyscreen thingie looks really good fitted as does the comfort seat and the pillion seat cover thingie!

I'm waiting for the UK press to test it over here on our roads to see if they likey or no-likey and I want to see all the colours in the flesh.

Then I'll ride one. I'm tempted to keep the FZ1 just in case it's a 5 minute wonder that I wont like. I'd be gutted if that was the case and I'd let the joy of my life go

You'll be amazed how much the mt09, and the fz1 are like chalk and Cheese locksmith. The mt is a high powered supermoto/street bike, and the fz feels like a tourer when you get back on it. The mt engine is tuned for low down torque, whereas the fz is a screaming thrash machine. It's worth the experience though, it'll certainly make you giggle.

I thought about the fazer8 - but not quite enough. Thought about the fazer thou but not bothered about two up or touring or straightline speed and a bit heavy for little me.  So far everything I have heard about the MT is pricking my ears up and im getting bigger ticks in my boxes.
Could this be the bike to prise my 600 out from under my legs

Im with you fazersharp, i think in general people have less recreational time every year as working hours & financial restrictions get worse & worse so it makes sense to cater for the folk who just go out for a sunny afternoon weekend blast as they are would guess the majority of sales & this seems to fit the bill perfectly...for me it still isn't an option as i cant afford a new bike but in the future when they are say 3 grand i could see me choosing one over much of the competition.

Just a thought....I wonder how much they are in America ? If you can buy a brand new FZ1 for about 4 grand sterling then this has got to be a lot cheaper than that, surely.

I think the tag price was £6300!!! (can't be right, surely?) And the salesbloke said they'd sold 3 before the bikes even rolled onto the shop floor. And another 2 the following day. He's got 2 + a demo left. :

I'm assuming they will sell out all over as my dealer only has 6 and one of them is the demo bike.
Maybe they are trying to "create" demand and put the price up for when supply meets demand for next season.

Saw my first one yesterday outside local dealer--looks really nice. They are having an open evening tomorrow so may get a ride out. Would be very surprised if they up the price. They know they are onto a good thing by keeping price under £7k. They want to sell more bikes and this looks like the way forward.

Your spot on there Dave, probably clever sales tactics.
As for making the FZ1 fell like a tourer, it's hard to believe, but the MT09 is very light, and there's not a lot in front of you when your sat on it! The seating position is very much Supermoto with your feet directly under you, and your hands quite close to the body, it's to be honest, a bit weird! All your weight seems to be on the front wheel, personally I was a bit reluctant to pushing it round the bends because it just felt odd.
And then there's the power delivery!!!!!

If all your weight is over the front wheel, I would have thought you'd be more able to push it round the bends?
