New model FZ1
« on: 01 October 2013, 10:38:59 am »
Orite folks, its been a while since I posted on here.  Have to say I have missed all the chat and general shite talking  :D
Anyhoo, I jumped the dyke a couple of years ago and got shot of my Yam FZ1 for a Kwak ZZR1400, have to say I love my Kwak but there is some kind of strange pull from Yamaha and in particular Fazer ownership :'(
I am holding off to see if they redo the FZ1 and stick a crossplane monster in it, has anyone heard anything?? is there plans for a new model??

The MT-09 and it's new triple motor has to mean the end of the Fazer series I would guess. Sad to think, but maybe it'll start a new series of bikes that will make a fitting replacement for what has been a much loved machine in all it's forms. From what I've read here and elsewhere, the new engine would be a very good base for a new all-rounder, keeping the Fazer tradition, if not the name, alive.

Scotyam - I bought a ZZR too, but I kept the Fazer. I love swapping between the two, they're both superb in different ways.

With regard to the idea of a Crossplane Fazer, in BIKE this month, the MT-09 designer Shun Miyazawa says there will be high capacity MT style machines and they will choose the number of cylinders depending on what they're trying to achieve.

Now given the MT-09 is Yamaha refocussing on machines which are a pleasure to ride, rather than out and out fast, I reckon we could easily see an MT-10 or MT-11 with a Crossplane 4 engine.

And I'd buy one like a shot. I will have a test ride on the MT-09, but it looks a bit lacking in the grunt dept and as usual, it has not got a big enough range for me.

How come no one mentions the MT-06 , does that not do the same thing in the 600 range?

Eh? an 850cc engine in a bike lighter than all most 600's (wet weight) bar the R6 - I don't think there will be a lack of grunt...

Nothing from a Goldwing should ever appear on any bike - not even a Goldwing...

With a remark like that about cracked frames, which suggests that all generation 2 Fazers crack their frames, then yes you are talking bollocks !

Erm, the early ones most certainly did. There's a few on here that have experienced it first hand bud.

Interestingly Bike mag hinted at such when they said " why do you need an FZ-1 when you have this " ?

my retort could be ...well 140 odd bhp for a start ...let alone fairing etc etc. No way can it replace the FZ-1, but certainly its time the fazer was updated....FZ-1 came out in 2006, thats 7 yrs prod run...??

Still think the MT " fever " is verging on hysterical overhyping ...I mean how can it compete with a speed triple???...yet Bike mag reckons its better .Sorry , not  convinced.

I still laff when I think of Yam bringing out a torque meister after yrs of top endy screamers...but I still think it looks pants and a 14 litre tank is bollox for anyone with any intentions of doing anything other than piss about on it. Replace FZ-1 ...feck no.And dont even think it can possibly rival a FZS.... :z

Yep, no way I'd trade a gen 1 thou for it. Still not convinced about the looks either, but as a second bike? Yeah, I think I'd have to give it serious consideration. But then, I'd need a third bike as a winter hack and, well, maybe a KTM for Thursdays and........... :lol

Im sorry to all those ppl that love there gen 2 thos and all the people that love this new yam but !
the gen 1 to me was the perffect half way house sports bike perfomance tourer comfort and a decent size tank !
since then its all been moving away from the original bike

I wouldnt say its evolved ,the desgin mayb be simlar but the aim has changed tanks are getting smaller perfomance higher which is good but if you in a hurry filling up every 100 miles is just a joke
sorry but If I had my way the gen 3 might end up as a step backwards for some common sence to others !

one question which is totally off topic  why the flipping heck stick the air box in valuble fuel tank space when the loads of room in the fairing behind the lights?

Cracked frame welds. I believe there was a handful of 2006 models either side of the Atlantic with cracks but don't recall seeing any in recent years.

My 07 developed a microscopic line in the weld but I had just ridden it into the side of a mountain :eek I survived but the bike didn't !

Wonder which way yammie will take the FZ1. Do they fit the crossplane engine which by definition is making it even more of a sports bike or do they try to go back to a tourer based option?

Bizarre how many threads turn into "fazer thous are much better than fz1s"..I'm happier with my fz1 than I was with my thou. I'm perfectly ok with it that some of you fellers prefer your gen 1s.isnt that all that matters?
So back on track...I'm guessing there's a cross plane crank new bike coming..am at BSD in Peterborough getting my bike mapped today, I'll ask brew if he's heard wot...
