Author Topic: Bridgestone T30 ??? (Read 8777 times)

I just had an expensive journey in to work when i heard a pop then rattling sound so stopped to find a large screw hanging out of my rear tyre at a nasty angle.
I'd recently had a slow leak so about 10 days ago i put some of that green slimy stuff in, which cured the leak, and fortunately kept my tyre totally inflated this morning which was a very good result in hindsight.
So after taking a detour to my bikeshop and waiting around for them to turn up i didn't fancy the one tyre he had on the shelf, so slowly made my way to a motorbike tyre shop not too far away.
He only had 3 tyres so i was kind of cornered into buying a Bridgestone T30 for the princely sum of £161

I already had the BT021 on which i found extremely good, and i would imagine that the T30 is rather good as well, but i don't really know anything at all about them so was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of feedback on here at all?

They are the latest from Bridgestone replacing the BT023. You're one of the first people I've heard to be running them, but they should be a pretty good sports touring tyre.

They're the closest competition to Michelin PR3s which I have atm and am happy with, but I'd be happy to try the T30 next time around. Would be interested to hear how you get on them!

My bike is used predominantly as a commuter, it's only the fact that i ride all year round that i really want tyres to be good in crappy conditions.
So i'm probably not gonna be the best person to review them but i will give feedback once the wet weather starts kicking in, that's the important part for me.
I was really aiming at getting a PR2 or even PR3 to try but they never had my size in stock.

....mate of mine says they just started doing the pr3 110x70xzr17..at the princely sum of....£104.00...

I normally get my tyres online then spend £10-£20 getting them fitted, but i had no choice this morning with a large screw hanging out of it at a shitty angle, it went in like a needle in your arm but had a big thread on it which is why it popped so loud.
I was just grateful that the slime worked as it got me to my bike shop, then the tyre place, about 3 miles further than when it happened with hardly any air lost at all.

I tried to get the T30 only 3 months ago and could not get them any where. But I did get a good deal on a pair of BT023's and compared to the BT021's on they are outstanding. Be interesting to know what you think in a month or two.

How about doing a review darrsi?

I have a T30 on the back of my Fazer & it's been good in all conditions. When the S20 on the front has worn out I'll be replacing it with a T30.

It is the Slime stuff, i normally just carry it in the top box but to be honest it's a bugger to put in as it's texture is like cut up bits of cloth that bung up the valve, so you need to keep unclogging it.
I'm lucky that my neighbour is a mechanic who works at home so he has an air line handy.

Only downside is garages generally won't repair a normal puncture with it in, if you had a blatant nail in your tyre for instance, so i will only use it when necessary or half way through the tyre life which is probably when it works best anyway.
It stays liquified until you get a hole then promptly bungs it up rather well as i found out today.

I was more than happy with the BT021 on the rear, so after reading reviews i can't imagine me being disappointed with the T30, especially for what i use the bike for!

Oh crap that looks like it happened on the way home from the fitters !!
I had exactly the same nail in my tyre (yes that exact nail) mine went in nearer the mold tags and then came out the side wall, I felt a bum-bump as it folded over and then no more bumping, I just thought it was road bumps, and went home down the motor way !. Anyway my point is it stayed like that overnight and although about down by the time i got there I rode it to the tyre fitters the next day.
And all that was without any green slime.
I do not like the slime because you could have a punchure and not know it-- so you riding around with a hole in your tyre which is compromising its structure.
I would say the best way if you want to use that is to carry it with you and use it to get you home.

Had the RAC out expecting them to take me to my bike shop, but when he pulled the nail out it never leaked, it was about 1cm in at a side angle.

Was rather hoping to get at least one whole days use out of the new tyre before having a nail stuck in it.
I checked it over when i got home and the hole seems to have closed up okay, and the pressure was okay too.
Couldn't help noticing how soft the compound of the centre tread was, it felt quite spongy compared to what i'm used to when i pushed my thumb in to it.

After scrubbing mine in you can clearly see a colour difference between the compounds which I've not noticed on other tyres!
I've had punctures the same day as fitting a couple of times, and yeah, I feel you, it is annoying, personally I find it funny how a lot of people out there aren't happy with having a repaired tyre on the bike, the amount of cheap ones I've bought from my local mechanics that have hardly any wear on them is mad!

The thing is, if I was going to work everyday on my bike in all weathers so that most of my mileage was straight forward A-B mostly upright I would go for a repair (if it could be ). But 100% of my riding is for enjoyment/fun in the dry and so I do not fancy doing that with a hole in my tyre. I trust my local tyre supplier/fitter and when they start scratching their chin and umming and areing when I ask about repairing --that is enough for me to stick a new one on.

That's all very well but at £160 a pop it's no laughing matter.
The RAC fella reckoned it would've been unrepairable because of the angle it went in, but i would've quite happily had it plugged straight away, and had already phoned my bike shop warning them i was on my way.
Fortunately i got away with it this time.

100% of my riding is for fun! I just get paid to do it!
