OE Dunlop sportsmax back from the dead?
« on: 26 September 2013, 09:58:36 am »
My bike had its original four year old Dunlop sportsmaxes front and rear when I got it. Despite having only done two thousand miles, and the roads still being warmish, they were useless, as they had predictably gone hard and assumed the stickiness of Teflon. Only just put new diablos on the cb, so hadta budget for keeping the fz1 on it's shite rubber until at least spring. But, as I've been messing about on the tuning side of it and subsequently doing lots of hard back road riding, it suddenly struck me 800 miles after getting it, it was gripping. Handling pretty good in fact. So started leaning a bit harder and getting on the throttle quicker out of bends. No slip! They have sorted themselves out somehow, I honestly wouldn't have believed it unless it had happened to me, but they've healed themselves, and are actually proving to be pretty good rubber, and despite the roads getting colder as autumn arrives I can actually get it over to the edge without having any " ooh ya fugger!!!" Moments..happy days :)

Tyres can go rotten with age, usually cracking is the give away sign, but I've not heard of rubber going hard in just 4 years.
Coming back from the dead?  Probably you just getting a feel for the bike and building confidence.

Ah, but does it actually say 'Yoshimura' in Japanese, Paul?

For all you know it could be Japanese for 'Gay Boy Exhaust Can Company' :lol
