FZS600 - Exhaust
« on: 06 July 2013, 02:31:47 pm »
Folks my year 2000 boxeye came fitted with a lovely stainless 4-1 system and has a viper can with link pipe fitted too.

I am finding the viper can too loud for me (even with the baffle in) and would prefer a stock can for the quiet life

My question is will a standard can fit on the 4-1 pipe? and if yes, does anyone have a standard can for sale?

I have no idea what make the 4-1 system is.

Any help or suggestion appreciated.

Thanks Gary

Hard to say for definite if the link pipe will fit, as some makes do differ in size, especially as you don't even know the make.
If you wait a couple of hours i'll measure the diameter of the one in my garage for you.

That would be great - appreciate it.

I think I will take off the viper can and link pipe and measure the outside diameter of the 4-1 pipe too.

Cheers :)

If its the same as standard can we strike up a swap deal for my standard?

Cheers

Standard end can has an approximate inner diameter of 50mm, but mine has an inner sleeve that makes it approximately 47mm.
Hope that helps.  8)

Cheers mate - I just measured the O/D of my 4-1 pipe and as best as I can see it's about 45mm or so - I reckon its close enough to match up.

Sure why not - sounds like a good option for us both  :)

You will need that inner sleeving then.

Ill pull mine off soon (?) and just check the sizes and sleeving. Ill also send you a pic of mine cos it has a couple of places where my heel has took some paint off the link pipe.

The silencer itself is spotless.

It's a bugger when that happens....

Your pipes look identical to mine, so should be fine. On the stock can, be careful with the heat paste & mesh infill - I buggered mine up before I got the new can, and needed a lot of exhaust cement to fix it!  :eek

Its not pulling off. Its not twisting off. I have stainless headers on so I'm thinking they may be some very old exhaust sealant keeping it stuck fast.
I've tried tapping it off also but I don't want to damage the thing if its going to someone else.

Huh... well that throws my analogy out the window

I've never come across a stock one that doesn't just pull off without much effort :( Not sure what to suggest as you appear to have tried everything I would have

Bit more brute force whilst twisting is needed, it will come off, it's only a pipe over a pipe!

Yeah - don't wreck that now you hear!

The viper came off mine no bother. There was a gasket on the link pipe where it joins the header so will leave that in if you can do the same for your one.
