k&n filter vibe issue
« on: 22 March 2015, 07:12:36 am »
Ok so i changed out the air filter from standard to k&n And it has made the bike really vibey. Always has the 6k buzz but now get vibes all thru the range. Any ideas why?
Wondered if it had made mixtures too lean but no idea if that would cause the vibes? Def increased acceleration so would like to keep it but making it uncomfortable to ride.
Any thoughts?

Did you have the carbs synced after the change?

that's interesting, as I have always had annoying vibe issues that I've mostly sorted.  Might check my airbox isn't causing vibes by padding the filter out slightly where it rests on the bottom of the box or something.

Does it rest on the bottom?

I mean the filter inside the box, not the box itself, sorry.  I wonder if the filter isn't a snug fit and is vibrating slightly.  I remember tightening the airbox up when I bought the bike which helped the vibes a little.

I meant the filter too, don't actually know if it touches the bottom of the air box, but a K&N is very snug and well fitting around the top so won't vibrate there.
Cheaper air filters can be ill fitting and loose in comparison.

OK, will have a look and see.  could well be vibrating from the top if it is loose I guess.

My old air filter I had for about a week which was crap had about 5mm of play around the top, but I never knew it was ill fitting until I put the K&N in, which fits absolutely perfectly.
