Intermittant Starter Motor Problem

This morning bike wouldnt start no movement with starter motor when i got half way to work touched the switch worked again. when i got to work stopped bike wouldnt work again ? any ideas new motor loose cable ?

If you download the manual , and have a multi meter it tells you how to check in the electrics section , so at least you can eliminate various things before replacing parts .

ill check these all out tonight under the area of side stand is gunked up to foc. so ill start there.

pretty sure i was asking for ideas to fix? not what you thought was healthy.

Shagged battery? Battery flat so won't work, but pressing it on the go uses power that the alternator is generating?


Not even sure if the system works like, just a wild guess.

As per the manual - Check the main and ignition fuses , check condition of battery , then to check starter motor put a jumper lead from positive battery terminal to starter motor lead 2 ( this check may produce sparks ) does the starter motor turn  - if not repair or replace starter motor.

I wouldn't take that for granted, I've had a battery show as fine on an Optimate but one cell was dead, the remaining cells gave a good enough reading for the charger to say it was holding 12v but the dead cell meant it didn't have enough juice to turn the starter.

As above, just because it's on an optimate, doesn't mean the battery is good...

all lights bright on ignition etc i know battery isnt the best tho so may swap that out first.

Do you have a jump start battery you can just quickly plug in to check?

it usually starts first time on the button but if im being honest when i bought the bike i was worried about the battery i've priced up a new one so i'll start there.Thanks for all your advice.makes sense it being the battery as charging on the way to work then lasting 2 or 3 days at a time.
