Fancy exhaust nuts?
« on: 10 December 2013, 06:18:17 pm »
I've seen a few nice bikes on here and a good amount of them have nice shiny chrome or brass exhaust nuts. I'm going to be fitting my new stainless system in the next day or so but my nuts are minging  :rollin

Is there anywhere I can go to get something nice? I can't see anything on the web apart from ebay and I don't like ebay.

Cheers!

Screwfix probably your best bet then if you won't use eBay!

Oooh I like those :D

They look a little delicate though? I'll have to check the site for maybe the same thing, but a bit longer for more surface area to stop me from lunching them. :o

Thanks chaps!

Brass, a bit soft?

Can't imagine them taking a lot of abuse when you come to take them off laters...

They are only tightened to 10nm or 7.3 ftlb so its not a problem...

Its a better option than the steel ones that often become corroded on only to snap the stud on removal..

I was starting to reconsider but if steel will corrode more I'll stick with brass and use loads of copper slip :)

I don't have a torque wrench though so I'll have to be careful

This was a link posted a few days ago

EDIT: - works out much more expensive than the links above so ignore this

I hope they fit, the website says metric coarse thread (they spelt coarse wrong BTW not a good sign), but a lot of Japanese stuff is metric fine thread.

I hope they fit too because if not I'll have to use my gopping old rusty ones that have been on the bike for 300 years. I HAVE to fit this exhaust though, not only am I excited but the repair I made to my rusty nackered one came off and it now sounds like hell. It's quite embarrassing to say the least. :(

The studs are M6 course thread so they will be O.K.
One thing I would advise checking is that the stud isn't protruding so far beyond the exhuast flange that the domed nut bottoms out before tightening on the flange. Should be o.k but worth checking.
To check. If you screw a bolt into the nut you will probably get about 6 turns, so as long as the exhaust is tight before then, e.g. 6 turns, it's o.k. If not tight then fit a washer (or two) to make up the distance.
