i think '3' fones only work on 3g network, think all others allow you to use 3g or gsm, like when the networks are busy you may drop down to gsm.
maybe your'e not getting good 3g coverage?....or maybe i'm talking rubbish, my phones positively ancient :lol

« on: 04 November 2013, 09:24:45 pm »
Is the FZS1000 Rear Caliper and Thunderace Torque Arm a straight fit mod on to the FZS600 then?

Will my braided line for my FZS600 rear caliper currently on be fine to use if I did the swap?

You'll have to file the caliper bracket a bit~ you'll see where when you offer up the thou caliper to the bracket.
Hose should be ok.

They're a bit fiddly to refit, but once you've broken one you tend not to do it again.  :)

That's reassuring to hear :)

Right, no one else break one!, i've not ordered mine yet.

xjr1300 one on mine, if it aint same length it's pretty darn close.
fzs1000 fits just about, but caliper ends up somewhat peculiar angled~ like it's had a night on the lash. :lol

@ robbus,it's just bike candy really,
technically you're saving a little on unsprung weight...if you want an excuse like. ;)

Chassis& cycle parts is covered in haynes manual for the xj/fz600.

Fz400 was a grey import to uk,alledgedly one of the best handling bikes ever, certainly of that era.
if you need engine specifics i think you're going to be looking at a manual in Japanese. ;)

.....Or the strange case of the disappearing biscuits.

From top to bottom Xmas 200xx, 2011,2012,2013 biscuit boxes, contents shrinking year by year.Note the contents weight carefully.

If you're gona rip me off, at least do it fairly. ;)

On a more serious note, there's no longer enough jammy dodger types included to go around!!  :(

Anyone care to comment?

Not really much in it,IMO just buy the best one you can afford.

You'll still get further between fuel stops with the 18l tank than most sports bike riders.

98-01 H/lights are said to be a bit lacking, not really an issue(?) unless you're planning on much night riding.

preload adjusters could be added to early bike if wanted.

styling~ i can't make up my mind which i prefer, if you favour one look over the other guess that will influence your choice.

« on: 02 November 2013, 09:29:00 am »
A burly friend could be helpful, but quite doable on your own ,see:

Different bike, same principles & about same weight engine i'd say.
I've done one of these but not the fazer, & i'm a weedy 11.5 stone  ;)
I'd wrap frame tubes with cardboard or something before removing/replacing engine to save the paintwork~ not much room for manoeuvre.

Your bike, your sense of asthetics, really only you can decide at the end of the day.

I was thinking more...well, something on the lines of this.... ;)

Wow, there's a blast from the past, my brother passed his bike test on his 17th birthday and had already bought a CBX 1000 that was waiting at home for him.
He then bought the Z1300 when he was 18.  :)

alas one i only drooled over~ i hope bro let you have a go!

O.K here goes i,ve been told the rear of my bike is starting to sag a little,19000 miles so not surprised....

call me a sceptic but 19k & worn out?  No way i'd replace a shock every 20k.

But if it's an improvement your after, then Kebabs your man:

Brake ratios:

hope that helps somewhat for starters.

@ Darrsi~ what if you've got a big gal on the back?  :lol

~& you wana try that on an 80's bike!   :rollin :rollin :rollin

I have a very good but also honest answer to that question.
The bike has a weight limit of 180kg.
I'm a touch over 100kg.
Then i have a large size top box which at a guess, with bracketry and always at least half loaded, has got to be 25kg.
That leaves my passengers a weight limit of 55kg, which i believe is roughly around the 8.5 to 9 stone area.
I don't make them, but rules is rules  :lol

I think you've got me on that one  ;)   :lol :lol :lol

Probably true,
some of us grew up with bikes that needed application of both brakes (& engine braking) to stand a remote chance of stopping in time.
Guess old habits are hard to break, if you'll excuse the poor pun ;)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: fazer thou rear caliper
« on: 28 October 2013, 04:33:15 pm »
Opinion seems divided on that one but i noticed a significant improvement & my standard caliper was working properly when removed.

Thou caliper has larger pistons,so even if you don't notice or need the extra stopping power you should notice a bit more 'feel' in the brake pedal.

@ Mr self desruct, no it doesn't work like that, there will be a little more pedal travel but correspondingly less pressure need be applied~ the hydraulic ratio increases, generally perceived as a good thing (within reason.)

defo for immobiliser~ Yam dealer told me  to take the link out any time  you want an emergency version. :thumbup

I can only remember there being one link , err.... but my memory isn't what it used to be.

How's this sound for testing the reg/rect?
Disconnect Red output lead, stick mulitmeter across output on 20v ish a/c voltage range~ run bike, but keep revs to a minimum, if ac voltage shows, rectifier part is swiss cheese~ chuck in nearest wheely bin.
If no a/c switch to dc voltage range~ & check it's in the ballpark of 12-15v.ish.

Stop engine &Reconnect output lead, then test regulator circuit as per factory manual with engine running.

Please DO NOT try 'til one of our more knowledgeable members has commented~ It's a plan, but it may be flawed ;)

Should have kept quiet, you were very convincing. :lol

Got any further on diagnosis & cure yet Boris?

49
@ Robbus, Glad it's coming together mate,& you found your missing inch ;)

Update on my installation:
Been away a couple of days, 100mile trip, with a slightly more scientific approach.(zip ties)
I'm using 80mm fork travel up incl my sag (yet to measure properly) & without trying emergency stops.

I upped the preload 2 marks halfway into trip but it was a backward step so back to adjusters fully wound out now.
With this setup it 'feels' about right TBH, a little harsh on big bumps, but nothing i can't live with.
So my advice to anyone yet to install would be to go with the larger holes than the 8mm ones i went with.

Biggest improvement was the cornering~ really inspires a lot more confidence now, i reckon i might even lose those chicken strips come Spring!  :rollin

Don't want to keep going on about it~ but still not convinced my bike has more than 100mm travel potential~ i'd be interested to here what length the topout springs are on the next foxeye to have forks dismantled is~maybe mine have been changed?
As long as i'm not bottoming out i'm not unduly concerned.
Won't be making any further adjustments just yet, as i am a fairly happy bunny :)  though i suspect there's room for a further improvement at a later date.

My bikes broken :cry2:

 ....

Mr Haynes says i cant test the rectifier, i can either swap it for a known good one or take it to a yam dealer to do it....

Mr Haynes also says "caution: never disconnect the battery cables from battery whilst the engine is running...." Hmmm.....just maybe he's onto something. :evil
However,
Mr Yamaha says:( & he should know i guess ;) )
http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=8
In the official factory manual, yes you can test the rectifier, download & have a good read of the electical section.
Whatever "this" was in last post it's not showing on my computer.???

Not being funny Boris, but i'd be more bothered 'bout fixing my bike than debating every point brought up, there a helpful lot here,& they're only trying to help. :\

Thanks, not trying to be annoying, just trying to understand how things work (i cant fix the bike till tomorrow now so m stuck inside on the pc :P)

and in the last post i was trying to post the first picture in this
http://webpages.charter.net/jrandall/vrr/vrr_upgrade.htm

Ok,no worries.
& yes similar to that diagram.
