FZS600 Fazer / Re: How do you cope with glasses?
« on: 14 December 2013, 11:37:57 am »
My 2 penneth on this subject, had my eyes lasered over 10 years ago, now wearing glasses again, I have found best solution for me with steaming up of glasses and visor is to put a bit of plain shaving foam oninside surface, then wipe clear leaving a thin film.Works each time I ride,do the same again next time. :)

For Sale & Wanted / Fazer 1999 For Sale , has single Headlight Mod.
« on: 10 December 2013, 07:04:09 pm »

Yamaha FZS600 Fazer modified to single headlight with powerful Philips Xtreme Vision bulb gives better illumination than standard Fazer. Also fitted is a flyscreen. The original fairing and headlights ,mounting frame etc.all included for anyone wishing to revert to standard Fazer configuration(.Please see photos for original look) Mileage is 16500 Miles, but I dont have history to confirm.A couple of minor niggles I must mention,Fuel Gauge inaccurate, so I use Mileage Trip, once filled up and then ride 150 miles before filling up gain, also side stand switch ineffective, hasnt been a problem for me just ride it as normal, the way all bikes used to be.

In last year has had many new parts, cost £300 inc.  Radiator, pads, oil, plugs, filler cap , number plate with raised figures and also cost of headlight conversion. Also has 2 ignition keys.

Taxed till June 2014
MOT.  till August 2014

« on: 10 December 2013, 10:47:04 am »
Yes that would have been my next move if changing coil hadnt have worked,CDI , some on Ebay for about £25 when I looked, good luck with it, I assume you have changed plug leads and caps already.
Edit . There seems to be lots of bits for sale in the forsale /wanted section.

Edit 2 drained carbs as well first thing I did didnt help me , but may help in other cases.

Just sorted my Fazer from stuttering and hesitation , it was a coil, I detected it by pull off plug leads at idle 1 at a time, 2 and 3 when removed one at once the hardly caused a deterioration in idling. When I pulled off 1 or 4 plug cap, engine at idle speed nearly stalled. So changed coil to plugs 2 and 3 , problem solved ,genuinely runs better than ever because it has had a slight stutter from low revs ever since I have owned it.

Since I did this mod, I noticed bike was stuttering on acceleration, quite noticeable, anyway I checked all the electrics I had altered or disconnected while fitting single head light, no better , changed all plugs for new, still same problem. Eventually I tried pulling off plugs when engine running, one at a time. I found that removing plugs 1 or 4 nearly stalled engine when idling.
When I removed plug 2 or 3 engine note did not change anywhere near as much, I concluded it might be coil to 2 and 3 plugs.I bought a coil tried it today and engine ran perfectly, rode it and it is now running better than any time since I have owned it. Just thought I would mention this , perhaps it will help somebody else sometime. It was such a relief to have fixed it :)

Been having problems with stuttering on acceleration, eventually came to conclusion it was crap petrol, it started after I filled up from a particular petrol station.

About the look, if I want I can always revert back to original , or go for street fighter look with twin headlights  a la Street Triple , I had wondered about the latter ,still half tempted.

Thats ok like you said everyone to their own, I am a lot happier with it now, I think it looked dated before, where as now it has the classic bike look,
I like bikes like the XJR1300 and CB1300. Could be my next addition :)

Theres also cost of a piece of stainless to make back plate  wasnt expensive , I think it was 3 mm. thick, a bit over sized probably 2 mm be enough.

Thanks for your comment, I took bike out for a ride, and I knew something was missing, The Mirrors..... I had bought some new ones to fit in the existing tapped socket holes that already exist in the Fazers, noting I had to buy adapters as the right hand socket has a left hand thread. Here are a couple pics with new mirrors.
Also pic showing Stainless steel plate used mount clocks , which is also rubber mounted(4 rubbers) to stop vibration probs.
