FZS600 Fazer / Re: Stuck rear calipers
« on: 31 October 2017, 05:45:33 pm »
Split the caliper then change the seals. Make sure you clean out the groves, a round wire brass dremmel wheel is ideal these groves will be corroded pushing seals out so the piston sticks.
Don't loose the small oring between two halves. Polish pistons or replace if pitted on surface in contact with seal. Use red rubber grease when fitting seals.

Good as new.

Hope that helps.

Fitted oxford hot grips yesterday. Hid wiring and went for a test ride with summer gloves today. Impressed, why did I wait so long before doing this mod. They are very hot at 100 percent had to turn down. Superglue supplied didn't hold left grip so tried  Araldite.

When I rebuild my rear caliper I split it, then cleaned out the groves with a dremmel fitted with a  3mm brass circular brush. Very corroded from road salt. Replaced Pistons as they were pitted. New OEM seals and rubber grease. Brakes like new. Oh if you split caliper don't loose the small o ring!

Hope that helps

Split rear caliper, new seals and pistons. New rear goodridge braided hose fitted. Blue spot calipers stripped new seals and 4 Pistons. Goodridge front race lines wouldn't fit  :'( banjo on one side 45 degrees out of alignment. Front forks rubbed down ready for paint.

I used 5 water 1 pva, have a look at the pva instructions they often give ratios for use. It creates a sealed surface which stopped the fine dust in my garage. I did 2 coats.
Do a search you will find lots of advice re pva and sealing concrete.
Yes its cheap and easy to do.  :D

Hi Swing arm bearings.
Remove rear wheel, take brake pipe fixings off swingarm. Hang up your caliper on the footrest to keep it out the way. Remove chain guard.  Remove shock absorber bolts and connection to swing arm. Undo the swing arm bolt (under dust covers this is very tight!) pull or drift out and remove shocker and swing arm. The shock assembly has 6 bearings to grease, Swing arm just 2.  Mine were dryish and needed a grease,  guess they have never been done.
Haynes manual a help :lol
Hope that helps......

That was fun took the exhaust header off,  I was very worried I was going to shear a stud.                    :eek Eventually came off ok.
The oil filter was a different matter. It seemed to have become part of the bike. Gave up with my nice steel loop filter remove and resorted to driving a screwdriver through the filter, then standing (well nearly) on it. Filter 0 me 1  :lol
Now should I paint the exhaust or invest in a stainless. £175 sound right?
Next the suspension, strip check and grease the rear swing arm bearings etc. Got to be a 2 lager job?
Cheers chaps and chapesses
