Than 30 years early in the next! Yesterday teatime had to travel my local city roads in rush hour-something I can usually avoid- to visit sisters house to check all ok as shes away on hols. There was a huge hold up with most of us sitting patiently in queue, except the "LOON IN THE BMW" who overtook everything the wrong side of keep left bollards at speed past supermarket entrance, shop, pedestrians, bus stop, completely ignoring all road markings. :eek He got to the hold up @ least 2minutes ahead of the rest of us,then had to sit there because NO-ONE WOULD LET HIM BACK IN! :lol

Stereotyping shows a certain small-mindedness, but when it comes to BMW drivers, there really is some truth in what they say. It seems that whenever I see a car driver acting like a complete knob, it's almost always a BMW driver! I'm not making it up - it's how it is!
I was on the M6 heading to Lancaster doing about 80mph in Lane 3. Thru careful observation, I noticed in my mirrors that far behind me was someone in a silver car, swerving from one lane to another in order to get ahead of the person in front. They were undertaking, overtaking and tail-gating. By the time he reached my bike, he'd just done an undertaing manoeuvre and was in the middle lane. He looked up at me, smiled, then started to accellerate to undertake me and zoom into my safe distance gap. Before he could, I accellerated and he looked up and SWERVED INTO ME at 80mph!!!!
He was actually grinning!! I made some hand gestures and he SWERVED INTO ME again - and again!!! I was flabergasted and ran my finger across my throat to indicate to the dickhead that I would kill him :evil . One more swerve at me and then he decided he wasn't making progress, so he swung over to the inside lane and undertook again before coming off at the M55 Blackpool turning. I followed him off onto the M55 and stayed behind him even when he tried to outrun me. Then he SLAMMED his brakes on and without the ABS on my bike, I think I might have locked up and come off.
I changed lanes and followed from a much greater distance and when he came off at a junction, I did too. I followed him for miles but then he started chucking his car around corners with no warnings, turning infront of oncoming traffic, and finally onto a housing estate, driving like a wild man trying to escape. Then I realised that I was being a bigger knob than him and let him go before some innocent pedestrian was killed.
Foccing BMW Drivers? In the main, tossers!! But obviously not all of them :-)
-
Years ago we used to moan about Volvo drivers (240 bricks come to mind)!!! since coming back to biking I've noticed that most drivers are alot more biker friendly. there are exceptions admitedly but if you wanted to generalise I would say as a biker I have noticed that the levels of courtesy to bikers has risen.
-
just mine and 90% of other non beemer driving motorists opinion. i would set fire to every bmw in the land if i was allowed.

They say a Black Audi is the new Silver BMW :)
-
Funny how this thread developed....!!! I wasnt singling out BMW drivers-it was just another idiot who just happened to be driving one.
HOWEVER,without being small minded, have you ever noticed the brand of car in lane 3, poor visibility-rain,spray or fog- that you only just manage to see in your rear view because S/ HE HASNT GOT ANY LIGHTS ON? They are often grey ones which compounds the problem.
Some years ago I was outside my workplace with several other workmates waiting for our manager to arrive with the keys. He would race across the large company car park towards his personalised parking bay & slam his brakes on @ the last minute. This time however he didnt notice the wet leaves & locked up all 4 wheels & skidded into the small bollard @ the edge of the bay :o Oh how we enjoyed that! :lol Dont need to tell you the make of car :lol My opinions are based, like Maddog, on observation NOT prejudice(contempt prior to investigation).
Or what about the guy in the 5 series tailgating myself & friend riding towards Plymouth out of Cornwall.Every set of traffic lights we blew him into the weeds. Neither of us were riding anything special-both on very boring Hondas. Now Im not saying ALL BMW drivers are bad, but they do seem to attract a certain type. :eek BMW motorcycle riders?-a different species altogether :lol :rolleyes :lol
-
my comment is base on personal experiance !
tori ther'es always one exception to the rule !
I nearly got wiped out in a sainsburys car park last week but a middle aged man doing well over forty !
To try an beat me top a parking space ! no I didnt race him ! I had kids in the car but I had right of way and he was making the one or possible two finger gesturs at me !
he raged his car to the point most of the people in the car park stop to look at him !
and yes it was a 5 sereis .
This is just one of many insidents most of which are BMW's but not all ! just most !
for those of you in the know yes Audi is the new BMW ! :lol
but I would also say two of my friends have BMW one of which is arguable one of the best drivers i know !
with all honest I am not that great I forget to indicate now and then , leave my breaking to late, road postioning and observation arent all that they could be ! but these are all rare and not constant or deliberate !

I had an interesting experience a coule of weeks ago, after filtering thrugh a traffic queue on a turn left junction on the A12 I got to the front of the queue ready to turn onto the side road (30 mph limit) and the chap in the car at the front of the queue started honking and hooting and waving his arms about.
I ignored it and when space came pulled onto the side road and heard a screech of rubber behind me and saw the car behind shoot forward and then race up to my rear tyre with the engine revving furiously.
Looking in the mirror I could see the contorted face of a man posessed who then tried to under take me, over take me and drive through me for the next half mile, I remained calm and stayed in the centre of the road, nothing changed this bloke's mood, as I slowed down for other traffic or sped up to keep up the pace, he was gurning and shouting and swerving all over the back of my bike.
Eventually after about half a mile I pulled in and he shot past waving his arms in the air and gesticulating, I pulled back out and then followed him until he got caught in traffic.
The look in his eyes in his rear veiw mirror was priceless when he realised I had only pulled over to let him through so I could follow him, I could literally see the panic build up and when he stopped - up went the windows and clunk went the door locks - he had noticed I had got off my bike and was walking towards him.
I tapped on his window and asked him to tell me why he was putting my life at risk with his driving, he did his best to ignore me, until I am ashamed to admit, I became frustrated with him staring straight ahead as though I wasn't there and I gave his window a hard crack with armoured gloves.
He then wound the window down a tiny bit and shouted 'I'm calling the Police if you touch me' to which I replied that the only reason he wasn't lying on the pavement collecting his teeth up was because I was going on holiday that night and didn't want to miss my flight because of a pathetic, small cocked, tiny little road raging bully like him.
By this time he was deathly white and I thought having scared him enough I would deliver my parting shot - so I said 'there's a camera on my bike and I'll be handing over the evidence to the local Plod, expect a visit soon' (there is no camera) he looked completely crestfallen and I walked away.
What car was he driving?
A white BMW 1 series with blacked out windows, he was aged about 25.
-
doing about 80mph in Lane 3.
:)
Did you take his reg number? You can then ask the DVLA for his address by giving some old guff about wanting to buy the car but have lost the guys contact details, it'll only cost you a couple of quid. Once you know his address then the fun can really begin - although that costs more. ;)

Someone rushing to get to their hospitalised child before its too late should be shot in the head.
Weird.
-
hospitalised child my arse. owning a beemer means you should be forgiven nothing. you deserve whatever shit other motorists throw at you. i just love it when they try to push in at roadworks. only the weak willed or gormless let em in. i would rather have a small accident first than let one of THEM in. CUNTS THE LOT OF EM! :moon
-
Well I have owned a Volvo and a BMW and currently drive an Audi but the only accident I ever had in 45 years of motoring was on the Fazer.
Technically it was my fault, so how does that affect the stereotyping? :car
-
bloody biker :biker
-
I once drove my BMW to get to my hospitalised child and I did drive it like a twat.
A bit of tolerance and focus on our own driving and let others do theirs.
Don't like it report it.
I don't now have one and wouldn't as I'm not keen. But it all smacks of jealousy to certain car ownership.
-

Weird.
The assumption that retribution necessarily takes the form of shooting someone in the head.... Now that is Weird.
He looked up at me, smiled, then started to accellerate to undertake me and zoom into my safe distance gap. Before he could, I accellerated and he looked up and SWERVED INTO ME at 80mph!!!! You know what this was MadDog don't you? He was obviously rushing a sick child to hospital. :rolleyes

I was following a lorry at the weekend waiting for a safe place to overtake when a black VW Golf pulled out from behind me and blindly started to overtake? When the oncoming traffic appeared over the brow of the hill they had to take to the grass to avoid a head on collision. Scary!!
I sometimes get very annoyed with other drivers lack of patience and general disregard for others and at times it is very tempting to rise to the challenge but generally I manage to ignore them as sooner or later they WILL crash it's who with that I pity.

With so many folks using on-bike video camera's these days it would be nice to get some real time footage of the really bad ones then email it off to plod. Perhaps a visit and a warning later might make them think twice about their driving.
-
people in all car makes drive like idiots, put a bmw driver in a merc, audi, skoda, vw etc and they will drive the same, nothing to do with the car at all, its the mind set of the driver. Range Rover drivers love sitting in the outside lane but then again its only the bad drivers and their cars that stick out.
Could it be something to do with the 3series being a very popular car and being given out as company cars to kids who shouldn't be driving it in the first place and haven't had to work for it and respect it?
Now mini drivers (new ones) don't get me started, they seem to drive in a complete daydream!!
I agree though, the majority of drivers are a lot more aware since when I used to go out with my old man as a kid.
-
Actually I find it is AUDI drivers who really are tossers these days....and I put it down to the typical audi driver, who seem to be impatient ,self obsessed middle income earners who used to drive bmws ! They do have a terrible attitude to other road users, brash , superior, swaggering. I bet they hate any vehicle which overtakes them or is in any way blocking their progress.
Its not the car , its the driver type, and tbh they aint changed.
I have had incidents with bmws but nowhere as much as audis....maybe because so many are actually high performance, good handling cars, but I do put it down to the driver.
By contrast I dont think I have ever had anything but courtesy and professionalism from drivers of really fast expensive cars...its the godawful nouveau rich who are the assholes.
And young rich indian drivers...they are almost always arrogant assholes to a man...wouldnt trust them as far as u can throw them. They seem the type to nerf you off, laugh and drive off.
-
Interesting observations,Pitternator. Agree with your thoughts re the "stereotypical" Audi driver. Also beware ANY car with illegally spaced registration characters-attempting to spell owners name! As you say its not the car its the mindset of the driver. When Im driving down the road in my "Captain Sensible" Fiat Panda minding my own business its surprising how often I get tailgated by impatient types who havent got a second to lose in this world. IMO there are cultural/ethnic attitudes at work particularly in my home city. Strange how they beleive their car shows others how successful they are-even though they dont possess the associated skills to handle same :eek You could write a whole book on the psychology alone!
-

That's it spot on there Dave. The car, house, clothing, or music subscribed to as an indicator of perceived status or personality. Personalised vanity plates attempting to tell the world something about the driver (as if we want to know) and overt displays of aggression behind the wheel typify the type, but meet them face to face in other circumstances and they are usually weak feeble individuals.
It's psychological immaturity manifest in metal, a universal indicator of the shallow 'I'm alright Jack' mentality of middle management.

one of the bastards nearly took the front off my car this morning because he had to get to the front. no sick child, just a wanker . i was at the front of a queue outside sainsburys in warrington,my lane goes straight on or left into sainsburys. wanker is next to me in a right turn only lane. 51 reg 5 series estate silver. ordinary middle aged bloke driving it. lights change,we go,he goes straight on and pushes me over and i have to brake or he would have hit me. if you have read my other posts you will probably understand how i feel about this :evil . i blow horn and flash lights and am treated with a middle finger through the back window :evil :evil . i continue to blow horn and gesture for him to pull over, finger again, i want this wanker to die now.call it fate but he turns into the access road that leads to my street,i follow. he passes the first road on his right then comes to the second one (my street) and turns. so do i,he is driving a lot quicker now as he is convinced i am never going to give up. my street has severe speed bumps and looks like coronation street a bit but with cars parked nose to tail on both sides. he is now doing about 40!! down a little street over these horrible speed bumps banging the underside of his car. i am only doing 20 as thats as fast as i dare go over them, straight across an unmarked junction, hits the brakes and turns right heading back toward the road he just came off. i park up and go in my house happy in the knowledge he has done damage to his car and like all the rest of em he is a coward as well as a wanker :lol . i will be keeping my eye open for him,he was local because he had a warrington wolves sticker in the back. next time i see him it will be horns and lights again, lets see if he bottles it again :evil :evil :evil
-
Be careful with that one Chilly, if he had stopped it could escalate and you would quickly find yourself in Prison. Don't ask me how I know. :lol
-
the rage has passed now,i would be happy just to intimidate him a bit :evil wrong i know but feck him,he deserves it :lol

I must have an alternative way of thinking on this one. I have a toyota corolla (8 years old, 88000 miles on clock). if someone like the above wants to play chicken with a beaten up old car (when they are in the wrong) then im quite happy to claim out of their insurance.

If a person tailgates me I tend to ignore them or get out of their way. But if moving means cutting another driver up I just carry on as I am until I can get out of the way safely, I'm not going break the speed limit to satisfy some moron's ego. This course of action, according to my girlfriend, is wrong but that won't stop me doing it :D

Same here. If it's a normal 30mph road I just tend to let of the gas and coast... I have ended up stopping a couple of times... when pulling away if they get right up behind again then coast to a stop again... they get the hint eventually :lol
-
Funnily enough the only times I've had this since moving out of London are when I've had to drive back into London :'(
-
I've been doing a lot of driving in Wales recently and between there and London - I've noticed a lot more aggression and impatience on the road, most notably from young women in Citroens. No idea what it means, but there you go.
Also, if I was driving like a twat to get to the hospital for a loved one (mercy dash) I would have my 4 ways on, flashing my lights and tooting the horn. I did it once to get home when my wife fell unconscious after a knock on the head - she just managed to call my number, say 'help I've hit my head' and then dial tone.
One twat thought I was 'pushing in' at a queue of lights and tried to stop me, I nearly blew a gasket.

Times are hard m8 - they probably cant afford BMWs :lol
Fav trick on a motorway when someone tailgates me/flashes (in outside lane) is to slow down and match the speed of the car in the inside lane.
doesnt half get them annoyed!!!
