Apparently so according to the news.
Time for a sale?
-
I started a thread about them possibly in decline a few months ago, sadly looks like I was right.
-
All over Twitter - Just bought new boots a couple of months back, hope there is nowt wrong with them!
-
From MCN: (http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/General-news/2012/July/jul3112-hein-gericke-uk-in-administration/)
Hein Gericke UK has been placed into administration with buyers for the British arm of the German parent company now being sought.
The administrators, Moorfields Corporate Recovery are looking to sell the business and have invited interested parties to get in touch by Monday 6th August.
Maybe we should save up?
-
M&P? Their new temporary place is shite! waiting for them to move to new premises across the road
-
@JZS 600 - I reckon it's cos of all that cheap 10/50w you bought!!
-
Now I'm after the rest for my stockpile!
I'll be able to trade it on the stock market.
-
Can't say I'm surprised.
Their website's a mess and the my nearest store always seemed worryingly quiet whenever I dropped in. That and their pricing structure which was either too high or too low (not that I'm complaining about a dozen litres of 10W-40 semi-synthetic for £30, delivered), made it hard to see how they could make a profit.
Which, of course, they don't: pre-tax loss of £1.3M last year on sales of £18.2M.
-
£18m sales....sad they couldnt turn a profit on it. I too expected this to happen, when they were always offering mad discounts...it will never work, just keeps squeezing profits even more.
-
bollocks I've got a credit note with them :rolleyes
-
Closing down sale now on, so they're winding it up then :(
-
here we its official
-
I went earlier, don't know if it was just the one in Hull but there weren't many bargins to be had. 20% off most clothing and 10% off helmets but considering the high prices to begin with I wasn't tempted. Think the staff were unpacking new stock as well...
-
MMM got to keep the europeans in a job :eek

Ditto. I was very disappointed. I've got myself fully kitted out by my local store over the last couple of months. I went in hoping to pick up some bargains, but these deals are worse than all of the ones I used to get my other stuff.
I'll wait and see if the prices drop any more.
-
They've stopped sending 25% off vouchers for some reason :)
-
AND I'M IN THE WRONG COUNTRY. ARSES
-
I should have bought more oil,,,,,,,,, :'(
-
went in york branch last week and they offered me 30% discount on everything........i got the inpression that i could haggle with that aswell ;)
-
Sad times, but needs must, so went to Liverpool store today, 20%, 25% and 40% off some stuff. :)
For example, £44.99 for 1 set of EBC brake pads with 40% off........ that makes £26.99.
I walked out having bought nothing. :(
Closing down sales don't have customers walking out having spent nothing.
I can get 2 sets of the same pads off Ebay for just over £40 posted. Only slightly more at a local dealer not associated with HG.
The staff at Liverpool have been great to me as a customer over the years, for which I am very grateful and I have put quite a bit of business their way, but previous 'get the customer in' sales were far better than their closing down sale is now. I ain't buying 'owt yet, not 'till they really close down.
-
Went into the Southampton store today and was very disappointed as everything was at 20% reduction. Walked out as the prices are ridiculously high anyway and 20% off was an insult for a closing down sale.
I've heard that some stores may stay if a proposed takeover goes ahead.
-
Has anyone studied the closing down sale posters. Is there a "Better Than" in small letters hidden at the top? :lol
Don't know about pads and stuff but you could easily get 30% off their gear long before any closing down sale (or is it?).
-
just noticed it only affects stores in this country, euro stores are to stay open.......would make a great ride out to get some new kit :)
-
Still not impressed.
I got the 'further reductions' email yesterday, so called the store to find out what the discount was on some stuff I was interested in. They quoted the original price and the discounted price to work out the percentage. The original price was higher than the price in the current catalogue, meaning the discounts aren't as high as they claim.
Out of interest I took a look at their german website, to see a 'Summer Sale', with discounts of up to 50%, and they appear to post to the UK. Might get myself a pair of gloves that are cheaper that way than they are in the closing sale here.
-
Tbh I briefly worked in one of the stores and they always met their targets
in there. I strongly suspect the issues have come from up the chain rather
than down as is usually the way. I don;t think the banking crisis or the
recession helped but i wouldn't be suprised if someone higher up has been
skimming till so to speak.
They had problems paying staff, getting new stock in the list goes on it was
only a matter of time. Shame really as I got some good cheap winter gear
from there ... oh well.
The shame is there are some more good lads going to be out of work soon
which anyway you look at it is rubbish.

When I was leaving for my holiday on the 3rd I stopped off at the Portsmouth store and picked up a pair of Alpinestar SP8 gloves which, with the 20% off, cost just less than the cheapest price I could find online including shipping, but I got them there and then, rather than having to wait for delivery (which would have been too late).
-
Just had an E mail come through promising 50% off,,, (actually up to,,,)
Must pop to the local HG and see what's what.
-
I've called into our local branch but not found anything cheap enough to tempt me, especially as you will not be able to return anything once they have closed should ther be any problems.
Andy :)

Unfortunately most of the good stuff at my local HG has gone now.

-
I got pre-load adjusters for £14 (£28 with 50% off) :D
-
Nice pair of Alpinestar Jet Road GTX gloves this afternoon, 90 quid down from 130.
Feels a bit like grave robbing though :(
-
HJC IS-16 Spectre helmet £97.00 in Doncaster shop.
Bargain
you can get this helmet for £79 at infinity....now that is a bargain :D
-
Time to get in quick. Just been on the phone to them, they have now been bought out and are in the process of closing some shops down (my local has gone :'( )
Sale is running for a few more days, with everything between 50 and 70% off. Just got myself a nice set of panniers :)
Stuff is getting thin on the ground, so if like me you know exactly what you want, call the customer services 0800 165 165 and ask them which stores have the stuff you want, then phone direct and get the stuff posted out.
Good luck
-
My local one (Newcastle) also gone :o
-
Got a new pair of gloves from the Peterborough store at 50% off and called in at a branch in South London with a guy from work and they were doing batteries at 70% off. So I've got a spare battery now (as my alarm flattens the battery and they don't like being constantly discharged).......

The UK operation has been bought out by the German parent company & according to a member of staff, they're going to be closed to the public tomorrow for restocking & will then re-open on Saturday (well those stores that are being kept open) when it'll be back to business as usual.
-
they were shut ion Newcastle today, and there's a big to rent sign on the building.
Hope you're right though Pat, I always liked it as a shop, and the service I had in NCL was always great (I know others have had differing experiences elsewhere!)
-
Popped in to Birmingham shop Wed am. Very little stock left on shelves-a few batteries marked down 70%- some jackets & quite a few Helmets. They had a Shoei Multitec (small) @ £419 !!!!!! :eek
-
Leicester say they have had a stock delivery?
-
The Hull shop was closed today and all the sale banners had gone and an A4 notice was in the window (too small to read as I rode by :lol ), so I'll see what tommorrow brings?
Andy
-
winton, bournemouth store also closed............if they were in that a state why not have proper ,real sale that normal common a garden folk can afford they would maybe rescue a store or two.
-

manchester
stockwell
southampton
edinburgh
farnborough
gants hill
glasgow
belfast
maidstone
preston
leicester
braintree
aberdeen

-
thanks for that pat......my two local stores staying open :D
-
was in the Glasgow HG and the guys are very relieved.
-
So if we are to use these stores, in the past what have they been good for,, whats hot in them and will it continue?
-
I'd reckon its the volume of sales they do, as there are no other options in Glasgow for kit that isn't a main dealer. Or I've not found them yet.
-
quell surprise it sbeen bought....no doubt for a song...all the debts go down with the Uk company ...now they start afresh. The usual tale....
In spite of their name....it aint good for the creditors.Bet they wont be so keen to do anything for the new company ....but good news for the few employees who remain, and maybe us as consumers.
-
So the closest one to Birmingham is Leicester !! Not worth the trip out. :(
-
It looks like Hull has closed but I assume internet sales will be back on?
Andy
-
The Stockwell one, which is five minutes down the road from me is still open. Get in.
