General / Totally baffled by PCN
« on: 06 May 2014, 06:59:08 pm »
Hello Foccer's, got an e-mail today regarding a PCN and have no idea what I've supposed to have done. Can anyone shed any light on this for me ?

DATE OF NOTICE                16/4/14
DATE OF CONTRAVENTION  11/3/14

YOU ARE LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR DEALING WITH THIS NOTICE DO NOT PASS THIS ON TO THE DRIVER

THE COUNCIL BELIEVES THAT YOU ARE LIABLE TO PAY A PENALTY CHARGE WITH RESPECT TO THE ABOVE VEHICLE, FOR THE FOLLOWING ALLEGED CONTRAVENTION.

38JL FAILING TO COMPLY WITH A SIGN INDICATING THAT VEHICULAR TRAFFIC MUST PASS TO THE SPECIFIED SIDE OF THE SIGN.

IN ENFIELD ROAD N1 ON 11/3/14 AT 00.09.

Now I have no idea what this means or whether the notice was issued over the set limit of time after the bullshit sounding offence.
 Can anyone help ?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Rattle/knocking coming from front end.
« on: 25 April 2014, 08:18:48 pm »
Hello Foccer's,
Have noticed a rattle/knocking noise coming from the front of my bike over the last few weeks.
I've checked my headstock bearings for play and I've made sure there was nothing rattling around under the fairing panels.
Today I gave the front end a shake with the bike on centre stand and it sounded like it was coming from the o/s lower fork leg.
Is there anything inside there that would cause this knocking noise ? More noticeable over bumpy ground, am thinking fork bushes.
Bikes just turned 40k and front forks are well overdue a service.
Any thoughts please or have I just answered my own question ?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / 270 miles to a tank ....Is it possible ?
« on: 23 April 2014, 05:29:12 pm »
Hello Foccer's,

First of all, this thread is for my own reference but, feel free to join in, take the piss or tell me my theory is "seriously flawed".  :D
I think it is.(Not seriously flawed but possible). Having already achieved over 258 miles to one tank of fuel I'm convinced that you can push it further.
Over Easter I rode home from Hereford, using the motorways, pretty much keeping to legal-ish speeds but more importantly was pretty gentle  and smooth with the throttle. Went through a couple of showers which helped to keep me from gunning it.
Today I went for a little bimble in the sun and when I had reached 261 miles on that same tank I opened it up to see how much was in there.
It looked pretty low so I headed for the petrol station.
Miles achieved on that single tank.....263.6
Amount of fuel to fill it up..................22.55L
Average MPG...................................53.3
I never actually ran out of fuel, nor did it cough or splutter. So, could I squeeze another 6.4 miles out of it ? I think I can.
Bearing in mind this bike has been full monty'd, I think this is quite impressive.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Worrying looking bulge in tacho facia
« on: 11 April 2014, 05:58:23 pm »
Went for a gentle little bimble today and I noticed a bulge developing in the tacho facia by the screw. My first thoughts were that something was arcing out and getting hot causing it to melt the plastic but when I got home and took the clocks apart I couldn't see anything that would suggest this was the case. The circuit board looked ok and where the screw fixing was there was nothing that looked liked it would cause this. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before ? As I rode home I could see it getting bigger but no blown fuses, everything works as it should and no burning smell. I'm baffled.

Hello Foccer's, I don't know why but I keep looking at these and thinking I'd like to have a go on one. My local dealer has a 400 and  650cc one in and offered to throw me the keys to have a go. I declined as I just couldn't bring myself to jump on one as people were looking.  :lol
So, has anyone ridden one, owned one and what are they like. ? Or should I just stop being a c*nt and get the thought out of my head. :b

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Sheared rad lug
« on: 29 March 2014, 07:49:08 pm »
Went to fit a s/s rad guard today. A glance at the Phillips screw heads at the bottom two days ago I just knew it was going to be a PITA. So, been spraying them with penetrating fluid and had a crack at it today. One cracked off ok, the other wasn't having it. Tried heat, more penetrating spray, gave a gentle whack with an impact driver but didn't like doing it on the rad.  Ended up chewing up the head so out came the grinder. cut a slot in the head and gave it some with a flat head. Not having none of it. The next step was to grind off the head, centre punch and drill out and find my stud extractor set.  I ran out of options when the lug sheered off when I was ay the stud extractor stage. So, can I get the lug or a new one brazed or welded on to my rad or shall I just rely on  my little dob of silicone to keep it in place ?
Then to top it all I noticed a thick steel staple in the rear tyre that hissed at me when I attempted to remove it. Too late to get it repaired, needless to say it got pushed back in. :wall  Today, was not a good day but I should have known not to touch anything mechanical after my works van blew a hole in the gearbox on Friday. :oops

Hello Foccer's, can someone tell me how you put words in between pictures, can't seem to work out how to separate photos with individual descriptions and also how do you put a line through a word ? Does this even make sense to anyone or is there no hope for this technophobe?. :o

Events, Meets, Ride outs etc / Sunday 16th march
« on: 10 March 2014, 03:31:09 pm »
Hello Foccer's, am meeting up with Harry Hornby this Sunday for a little ride out. Am thinking A20 Maidstone towards Ashford, peeling off at the A252 towards Canterbury then maybe back through Ashford to Tenterden and following the twisties down to Rye. All subject to weather, so is anybody else up for a run out. Could do with a few hooligans tagging along so am thinking Kitcrazy and Exupnut. Would be nice to have Midden come along but he's developed a habbit of foccing off on his own.  :lol

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Fork oil change
« on: 18 February 2014, 08:20:00 pm »
Hello Foccer's, after reading a thread somewhere where Mike (Falcon) referred to damage caused by not changing the front fork oil regularly got me thinking I need to change mine. So,  what's the easiest way to do this ? Can I do it with them in place ? Are they drain holes located at the bottom of the stanchions ? What's the recommended oil ? Is it worth changing the springs to Ohlins to complement the rear while I'm at it ? Sorry for the barrage of questions but I've never felt that confident when it comes to working on front forks for some reason. Any advice much appreciated.

General / I can relate to this
« on: 22 January 2014, 04:30:38 pm »
When I was 14, I hoped that one day I would have a girlfriend. When I was 16 I got a girlfriend, but there was no passion. So I decided I needed a passionate girl with a zest for life. In college I dated a passionate girl, but she was too emotional. Everything was an emergency, she was a drama queen, cried all the time . So I decided I needed a girl with stability.

When I was 25 I found a very stable girl but she was boring. She was totally predictable and never got excited about anything. Life became so dull that I decided I needed a girl with some excitement.

When I was 28 I found an exciting girl, but I couldn't keep up with her. She rushed from one thing to another, never settling on anything. She did mad impetuous things and flirted with everyone she met. She made me miserable as often as happy. She was great fun initially and very energetic, but directionless. So I decided to find a girl with some ambition.
When I turned 31, I found a smart ambitious girl with her feet planted firmly on the ground and married her. She was so ambitious that she divorced me and took everything I owned. Now, I'm 40 and just looking for a girl with big tits.

Hello Foccer's, thinking of fitting some heated grips but don't want them to be much thicker. Any recommendations and how much difference do they really make, never had them or rode a bike with them so not sure how effective they are. Cheers in advance.  :thumbup

General / HID conversion kit
« on: 30 September 2013, 08:40:47 pm »
Hello foccers, just fitted a HID conversion kit and am not happy with the way the light is thrown out. On dipped lights there seems to be a dark patch in the middle and main beam seems too low. Has anyone else had these issues and is it just a matter of adjusting the lamps. Don't know if the 50 mm fork drop has compounded  this. What do you think foccers.  Before and after photos attached both showing high beam.

General / Today was a good day
« on: 28 September 2013, 06:33:49 pm »
Does anyone else find that some days riding are better than others ? With that I mean everything just feels right. The corners just seem to flow nicely, the bike feels planted, you seem to feel more confident in your own ability and the bikes capability.  Just fitted new chain and sprockets, rear brake pads, brand new T30 rear tyre, front forks dropped through the yokes by 50mm and dialled in the Ohlins rear shock for a firmer ride. Put these all together and it feels SWEET.  :)     Yes, today was a good day.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Clicking noise coming from relay
« on: 04 September 2013, 08:30:13 pm »
Hello foccer's, bike wont start on the button. Have replaced the solenoid but still wont start unless I bridge the solenoid terminals. Which to my mind eliminates the battery, starter motor and alarm. My next step is to replace the main relay as I cleaned up and sprayed the terminals and it started on the button but now wont, just clicking away. So, has anybody else encountered the same problem and am I barking up the right tree with replacing the main relay. ? Thoughts please. ;) Thankyou.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / STARTER MOTOR RELAY
« on: 30 August 2013, 03:49:39 pm »
Hello Foccer's, So my starter motor relay appears to be shot and have seen one for sale at a reasonable price {genuine  Yamaha} However it is advertised as a 2005 so my silly question is will it fit my 2003. Am pretty sure it will but thought I would tap into the Focu font of knowledge before I commit to buy. Cheers for any replies.
