Different rear wheel
« on: 16 March 2012, 12:20:51 am »
are there any different rear wheel that will fit the fzs 600? i mean rs 125 bandit 600 r6 ??etc etc etc

my bearing collapsed and is being a tw@ to get out

so im summing up my options if i can't find a decent fzs rear near by im going to try something new, im after a 17" wheel as my tire has at least 1500 miles left

otherwise is there any other wheel swing arms which will bolt straight on???

(id rather have something which i could fit the fzs sprocket to as i have just bought a new c&s set)

thanks mike

Theres various ways to get stuck bearings out, one is to muller the ball cage so the balls and inner race drop out and run a line of weld around the inside of the outer race and turn the wheel over, as the weld cools and contracts the race will just drop out, it's how we remove valve seats at work.
I've popped bearings apart in the same way to remove the centre spacer then re-insert the balls and space with rolled up cardboard and you can get a drift in from the other end easier, not tried that on a fazer wheel but always worked on kwak z650 wheels.
Bearings are too cheap to scrap a wheel for.

Just do as haddock says twat them out,i just used a very large screwdriver wasn't much left of the bearings when i was finished but new ones going in anyway.Freeze the new bearings overnight before you put in and they will more than likely just drop in or need a very light tap, don't throw a wheel just cos the bearings have gone £12 and its fixed.
Front wheel much easier to get out.

Like most Japanese manufacturers (particularly Suzuki) many parts are used across several bikes of the same era.

Likely Yamaha candidates for identical rear wheel are:

TRX850
FZR600R
Early Thundercat
all of which ran a 160/60 rear tyre during the mid to late 1990's

When it comes to buying bearings or seals always take the old ones to a bearing supplier and not a dealer, they will be at least half price if not cheaper for exactly the same quality part, they are all standard sizes and probably in stock, my local bearing place is superb!

I always use Bearings UK in levellers lane, Eynesbury, Cambs. John is a very helpful guy, it helps that I only work 2 minutes walk away...
