Morning,

In the past couple of weeks I've noticed that my brake lever is getting further out as I ride and the disks are really heating up, so much so that the last time I got home I could feel a real rolling resistance.  I just went out to clean the pots but found it a real struggle to push all 4 back into the caliper...I've cleaned them many times before and could always do it with 2 hands on the 4 pots, but today it took 30 mins of struggling with clamps and screwdrivers before I could get enough space for the pads and disk.  The movement of each pot is very smooth.  I didn't even bother with the other caliper.

To make matters worse I've pretty much rounded off one of the master cylinder screws...not a good start to the weekend!

Any advice as to what the brake issue could be, it's like the fluid returning to the MC is being blocked by something? New master cylinder/rebuild?  I've got standard lines and the brakes haven't been bled for about 2 years, I've never had a problem until now!

Cheers...Dan

Epernay and Monthelie are pretty much on a straight line from Calais to Passy...we just did a really roundabout journey to each of them, but that was half of the holiday. :lol

You did a roundabout route to get to the Alps from Calais if you went via Epernay.

Morning all...

I'm installing a 2-line HEL setup soon, how much DOT4 do you think I'll need to fill and bleed it?

I've never bled brakes before hence the question and there are various size bottles available.

Cheers...Dan

I got back last night and the whole experience was AMAZING, the toll booths were all unmanned but I got charged the correct amount in each.  Some of those roads are amazing I have to say!  We went the slow way down over 3 days, Calais to Epernay, Monthelie near Dijon, then onto Passy in the Alps.

Here's me and the old girl looking at an Alp on one of the Tour de France stages up to Lac D'Emosson.

I also decided to ride the whole way back from the Alps to North London in one go, 998 km in total on the Autoroutes.  The wife was a total trooper I have to say but its all down to the footrest mod on this post.  She usually gets really painful knees after 30 mins or so but she spent about 12 hours on the bike yesterday and didn't get a twinge.

Morning...

Has anyone got any tips for using the Toll booths on the Autoroutes in France - I know I should be going via D roads but I haven't got the time?

I've read a lot of stuff but it all seems to be very car-centric.

Do you always head to the right hand booth, do you always go to the manned booths so not to get charged for a car?  Do they have separate booths for motorcycles, best paying by credit card or cash?

So many questions...soz!

Cheers...Dan

Cheers, lads...I got the stickers/breathalysers/puncture kit/high viz vest already.  Now to find some room for the missus' make-up and shoes.

Gaffer tape - Good idea, if only to stop her twittering on the BT headset!
Plug spanner - Checked and it's the right one...ta

Can't wait to go...I'll be catching 2 stages of the Tour de France down near Chamnonix in about 2 weeks.

Perfect, thanks...I'll dig out the scotch tape!  I'd forgotten about the Hi-Viz, I'll see if the lads in the loading bay have got a few spare.

Tour de France here I come!

Ta, but I thought only the Boxeye needed the dual Headlight mod..the foxeye's lights are pretty good.

2 of the cheapest H4s then I guess and a couple of the small ones for the sidelights..

EDIT - actually will this kit do?

According to the guides I've read I need to take some with me...anyone got a link to some cheapo standard headlight and indicator ones for my Foxeye??

I've searched on here but there's too much Nightbreaker/H1/H4 chat, all I care about is keeping the Gendarmes happy!

Cheers, dudes!

- If all your music is on the Macbook and it's in the same room as the Amp then why not just have a really long 2.5mm plug to RCA lead and use the Mac to browse and play.
- If you've got an android tablet then you could hook up the headphone output of the tablet to the amp then wirelessly transmit the music from the mac.

So many options.

Personally I've got a DLNA enabled NAS with around 2 Tb of music/vids, I use an app called BubbleUPnP on my Android Phone/Laptop to browse the music on the NAS then play it via a WDTV Live box connected to the receiver, the only wireless bit is the browsing, everything else is hard wired.

It still impresses me, I turn the amp and WDTV box on, 10 seconds later I can scroll through my music on the phone, touch an album and it starts playing....

I'm taking the bike down to watch the Tour de France in Mid July...getting very nervous if there's no petrol to be had.

Anyone doing the same or just come back?

Here's a link to some custom made hangers, I keep meaning to get some done for the missus.  If anyone fancies getting some made then if you make me a pair I'll pay you handsomely!

I didn't replace my weights when I changed to Renthals, maybe they're much less prone to vibration but I get nothing at any rev range.  I've stuck some anchor bolts in the bars and secured with a washer to keep the hot grips on.  It's also a bit easier with Renthals I guess as there's no locating hole for the controls.

If you're going to attempt to take the exhaust off cut the nuts with a dremel and soak them in penetrating oil before you turn them

I also used a small cold chisel w/ a hammer to turn the nuts by putting the tip of the chisel in the dremel cut.  Seemed to break the rust seal better than a slow spanner turn.

Mine's been like this with no. 3 for the last 3 years, runs fine under load however.  Think the Pilot jet is a bit blocked but I've still not got round to stripping the carbs...one day perhaps!

I've been through the snapped stud saga too. If I had to do it again I'd cut the nuts with a dremel before attempting to turn them

Exactly what I did with mine together with a small cold chisel and dremel flexi-shaft.  Once the rad was off it took about 4 hours to remove all 8 nuts and fit the Motads with copper slipped brass domed nuts.  Didn't even need any penetrating fluid.

A lot of people, including me, have gone with the Ultra low 758.  Pretty close to the originals but with about 5 degrees more sweep and 1 1/2 inches on each end.  I'd never go back now, it feels so much more comfortable.  £32 inc del on Ebay.

This was talked about not so long ago, what you need is a ----- damit I cant remember the name but it has a long shaft before its a nut and I think you drill out the bracket a little to accommodate the nuts shaft.Im sure somone will be along shortly and tell you properly

Edit------- they are called rivet nuts,
Search this forum for "snapped studs" you are not alone

Good memory, Sir.  Here's the thread you need http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,12338.msg137697.html#msg137697

Yep, I got 2 sets of these indicators and 2 sets of these spacers (you need 2 spacers per indicator, one inside, one outside).  Cost about £40 in total.

I get 230 out of a foxeye tank, after putting in 20.29ltrs costing £22.50
Almost identical to me, are you riding my bike when I'm not on it?
