Help..........Damper rod removal

Just stripping down my gen 1 1000 forks to put in new seals and have a wee problem I can't get the damper rod out any suggestions on this would be appreciated

  tape a 27mm socket to a piece of tube  then slide it down inside of forks after you taken spring out use a allen key at the bottom of forks  then you can undo  they arn't very tight
