Not sure if there is a similar thread on here, so please delete if so.

I work in arboriculture, we keep the powerlines clear of trees and vegetation. Bit hot this time of year in full chainsaw kit, but outside in the sun, so can't grumble.

Bet it goes into a skip and then gets recast into more valves to get machined for all the swarf to get put into skips to get cast into more valves etc etc etc, the firm I work with are engineers to the whisky industry nothing as big as that, although they make reels for oil rig supply boats.

Normally in our work it gets sent to the scrap man for recycling.

I also work in an engineering plant, but I'm in the office off the tools now, and work more are a quality engineer. Snooze fest.

funny tho, most ends up in the yard, ive pulled shit loads out my back tyre and work couldnt care less, i dont park my bike on site now out of protest, shit this becoming a christo post lol.

anyway mickvp has one of the jobs im aiming for, that or production manager, training for them so see what the future holds n all that.
honestly mate, don't do what I do. if you want off the tools, try and go down the manufacturing engineer route - you will get off the tools but the work is a lot more interesting / problem solving based...

there are only so many times you can do capability studies before you actually want to kill yourself :lol

I demonstrate these to customers that want to buy a chainsaw.

Some say that he eats habanero chilli peppers dipped in oil of capsaicin for extra bite and that his pyjamas are made from Nomex. All we know is, he's called Ad the Bad

I'm currently a Web Developer... I build and maintain systems for companies that transact on the internet. This ranges from small tasks such as building a website (wow, HTML and CSS... something I could do when I was 12...) to statistical analysis and reporting on multi-million pound insurance systems.

The best bit is that I work from home so basically make my own hours despite being fully employed and I do generally get some challenging work so things don't get too boring. The team consists of two people including myself, of which I do 90% of the work and my boss / manager does the other 10% :P So it's nice to be solely responsible for the systems that allow a company to transact more than £7 million a year

I work in electronic/electrical engineering.  Design wiring harnesses and embedded controllers for big horrible white things towed by cars.  Please don't use the c word.  I get a nervous tic every time I see one being towed to the coast down a lovely biking road with a 20 car tailback behind it.

My other half thinks it's really funny that I work to put more of the things on the road that really P me off.

Oh well, at least the mini digital dash I'm working on in my spare time will eventually get fitted to my bike.  And that dream of making my own EXUP controller is still alive.

Just wish I had more mechanical skills ... would be great to use a lathe and a welder.

There's a business opportunity for you: Design a scanner that you stick on the back of the c-thing which flashes up a message in front of the driver towing it that says "Pull over and let other people pass, you selfish sod!" :D

I'm a software team leader for Titian Software, a small outfit (90 people ish) that sell a sample management system to the R&D depts of all big pharmaceutical firms (GSK, Astra Zeneca, Sanofi, Lilly, Pfizer etc), plus quite a few bio/agro-science firms. It's basically a super complicated asset management system with stuff bolted on to integrate and drive all kinds of automated liquid handling machines. Lots of c#, asp.net, mvc, oracle etc. Fairly senior now, so spend less time doing dev work, more time on project/line management and recruiting, plus some onsite time deploying/testing. Still, it's a company on way up, expanding a lot, and doing some interesting software work.

Was once a Council civil engineer, then ran quarries and construction companies. Retired in 2011, but got bored and went back to working.

Now run some UK businesses for an international group - one that puts white (and yellow) lines on the roads, one that makes and installs all types of signs and one that makes and fits vehicle graphics (stickers)/livery/wraps.

Keeps me (too) busy. Need to get back to spending more time with my family and on my hobbies.

I'm a sign maker for a small local company. Been doing it for 17 years now, it's a great job and comes in handy for bike decals :)
