Just getting a 2002 Fazer 1000 back on the road on the road, have been unable to get it to run right, the bike was accident damaged and ran well when I bought it before I stripped it to rebuild. The engine has had a full service and valve clearances done, I`ve fitted an Ivan carb kit watch all the tutorials reset carb floats. The exup and original headers were damage in the accident so I spoke to Ivan and bought a used 4-2-1 header pipe setup eleminating the exup which fell within Ivans recommendation of intermediary pipe length. fitted the healtec for the exup removal changed plugs to iridium, the bike is dificult to start and sounds like it has a miss fire and sometimes just cuts out, I put a set of vacuum gauges on the bike to see if there was any obvious discrepancies all it showed was a slight imbalance across all 4 cylinders. any help would be greatly appreciated Gary

Hi all,

I’ve had my Box Eye 600 for about 2 years as part of a collection of 5 bikes in total. I picked the bike up as a stolen recovered spares or repairs but fell in love so opted to repair the damage and also make a few other mods. The fairing was badly damaged so I removed it and fitted a single headlight for a more naked look.

I am looking forward to sharing and learning from others here.

Cheers

Hi All,

Just acquired a 2003 FZS1000 in lovely condition after being a Triumph Triple owner for the last 10 years and am experiencing a bit of a culture shock so would appreciate some advice to help me bond with it.

The motor seems really buzzy after the triple which is to be expected I guess but the slightest whiff of throttle has the revs shooting up making tight maneuvers tricky and has the bike jerking over bumps as I can't keep the throttle steady. Is this the norm with these? It has a Blue Flame race exhaust so don't know if the fueling is off?

The seating position is great for me as I had both wrists smashed in a bike accident a couple of years ago so comfort is spot on but there seems to be no weight over the front wheel making steering seem vague at times. I guess dropping the forks through and maybe lower bars would help - has anyone had experience or recommendations of doing either?

It came with the original owners manual which says to cold start the bike with full choke and no throttle but it never seems to catch without a fair bit of throttle - is this normal or once again maybe a fueling issue caused by the pipe?

Forks feel extremely soft - already had been set for max compression/rebound so once again any advice of beefing them up a bit? Thicker oil/stronger springs etc?

The gearing! Does anyone actually use first gear on these or maybe someone has messed with the sprockets on mine. I'm constantly trying to change up from 6th gear and it feels like it needs another 2! I know it's revvier than the Triumph and will take some getting used to but it seems horrendously under-geared. Must check the number of sprocket teeth.

Sorry if that all seems a bit negative but I really like the bike and want it to get the best out of it. Looking forward to interacting with fellow Fazer owners on here.

Thanks in advance for any info/advice you can offer

Good morning, new member here.

I’m in Essex not far from Stansted airport. Been riding since the 80’s and have owned and ridden all sorts of bikes. I’ve recently bought a 2004 FZS1000 with 26k. The bike is standard (I think) apart from a Maxton fork conversion and rear spring. The bike’s been cared for and has good service history. There was no evidence of a fork service so I’ve had them apart, changed the seals and bushes, and dealt with the seized adjusters. The front end feels pretty good now. I’ll likely get the rear shock serviced over the winter. Aside from that I’ve just balanced the carbs and serviced the exup valve, haven’t even cleaned it in the two months I’ve owned it!

Not sure about future plans. Thinking about an Ivan’s kit. There is a slight lean surge but it’s not huge, definitely feels like it needs more fuel at the bottom though. All in all I’m pretty happy with it.

Looking forward to reading and learning from fellow owners.
I’m in Essex not far from Stansted airport. Been riding since the 80’s and have owned and ridden all sorts of bikes. I’ve recently bought a 2004 FZS1000 with 26k.
Last year I started receiving the state pension and bought myself a 1973 Norton Commando to ride and fiddle with. First time I had been on a bike in 37 years so riding it home 40 miles in the wet was a bit oooh errr. Last week I bought a 2001 FZS600 and rode it 160 miles down from Manchester and learned how uncomfortable the seat was and how useless the fairing was in terms of helmet noise. So two bikes, chalk and cheese. The Norton was a throwback to the one I had in my youth which in the end I wrecked whilst the Fazer is in homage to the XJ900 wich was the last bike I owned back in the eighties. Makes about the same sort of power as the XJ so it will be interesting to see how the two compare today and with my memory of what these bikes used to be like when I used to be far braver (stupider) and healed moreh quickly.

It took several rides to become comfortable with riding a bike again (what's this leaning over thing, seemed at bit scary at first to be honest) but becoming more comfortable now. Only had the one run on the Yam so far, too tight to tax it for 5 days ahead of tomorrow. What I do find very noticeable is the effect of all the road safety changes we have seen in recent years - proliferation of 20 mph limits, traffic calming, mini-roundabouts, really slow drivers. It's a real pain in the rear on the Norton which only has 4 gears so it is difficult to hold on to 3rd at 30mph and after about 20 continuous miles of it round Kettering and Corby I was quite tired and pissed of with it all. First job is to repeat on the Yam and see how it compares, is the older bike just too archaic to be anything other than a pain on such roads or will a more modern bike be just as bad. We shall see. I should add I don't seek out to ride such roads it's just that those urban areas are sat between me and the wilds of Rutland and Leicestershire so suffering them is just part of the price of getting to more fun roads. That's my lot, really useful forum and regards to all.

This winter I bought a non running Thundercat with the intention to fix it and flip it. But once I got it running I realised what a great bike it is! I'm definitely keeping it. Two months later my son bought a Fz8n and last month my wife bought a Fzs600. They are all great bikes and very similar to each other. Many tips to be found on this forum and so much knowledge. Thanks!
